Steve Bannon warns California might secede from the US
Washington Examiner ^ | Oct 21, 2017 | Daniel Chaitin

Steve Bannon warned Friday evening that California might pose a "problem" to the U.S. by attempting to secede.

Couching his statement on California's status as a "sanctuary state," Bannon, President Trump's former chief strategist, contended that California's Democrats and "the lords of Silicon Valley" would attempt to flee like states did in the run-up to the Civil War if the policy isn't turned around.

"You are a sanctuary state," he told a crowd in Anaheim at the California Republican Party convention. "If you do not roll this back, 10 or 15 years from now the folks in Silicon Valley and progressive Democrats are going to try to secede from the union."

The issue of secession was settled 150 years ago, Bannon contended, adding, "And it's going to be a ... problem here in California."

California became a "sanctuary state" earlier this month, after Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill on that prevents law enforcement officers from "asking about immigration status during routine interactions," defying the Trump administration.

During his speech, Bannon touted "economic nationalism," contending that people who " "are working two jobs" "got screwed" while those profiting in Silicon Valley "think they get a special deal" by getting "all the benefits of a free society," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

He blamed China for gaming the system in favor of "Silicon Valley, Wall Street, Hollywood and Washington, D.C."

Bannon, who is back at Breitbart News as executive chairman, also condemned former President George W. Bush, who just one day prior delivered speech widely seen as an implicit rebuke of Trump.

"There has not been a more destructive presidency than George Bush's," Bannon said.

Shorten the wall --- really only the southwest coastal region of Kalifornication needs to go.

HI, NY, VA, WA, OR, MA and RI plus California. Hmmm, it’s tempting...

It would be wonderful if Californicatia (Yep! That is a purposeful spelling) left the nation. Next, we could get Colorado to move the state of Colorodo (mountains, dopers and liberals) Physically to the new nation.

That would be like “taking out the trash” and bring in a new wave of fresh air into the remaining U.S..

Is California seceding a bad thing?

Dems have too many California Dems in the US House Representatives. If they lost the California delegation, the Republicans would have a significant increase the number of Representatives needed to attain the 50%+1 threshold.

Talk of secession is bluster.

Amen! Besides losing 2 rat $inators, The delegation has a total of 53 members, with 39 Democrats (including minority leader Nancy Pelosi).

Besides losing the above, we would create conservative state of Jefferson with 2 conservative Senators and a dozen + Republican Congressional Members.

The DNC would have hit squads taking out anyone daring to secede as that would be the numerical end of the national rat party as voting block.

Good. I think that the US could occupy and put CA under military government for 10 years. Can’t allow CA to secede because of security threat and exploitation by China, Russia, globalists.

American dirt. You don’t advance by retreating!

Major US military ports, training facilities, national labs other federal (”paid-for-by-all-of-us”!) assets cut off or lost. Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, etc cut off then lost.
Relations with Japan, Philippines, South Korea, India & all Southeast Asian powers will be compromised, then eroded then gone. The US will no longer be a Pacific/Asian power.

Most practical and obvious reason, if California secedes China will immediately move in to protect them. (You think the “California Army\Navy\Air Force -former CA NG!” can stop them? You think they will even be ordered to?) China will be asked to come in to protect California from the USA ! There are plenty of leftists there who will have no problem with that. And its logical for them to do it!

You want to share a border with a hostile nuclear armed world power? You think you have a border problem now? Wait until all the illegals, “coyotes”, druggies, etc. have the backing of a world power - China. A power who understands and is adept at “subversion”. Don’t interpret what I am saying as an inordinate fear of China. It’s just the logical next step for California as a separate nation. China is a rising power, it remains to be seen if we are a falling power. If we shed California due to some misplaced nostalgia for what might have been for the South, we will definitely be a falling power.

China is already training for an opportunity like this. They are becoming heavily involved in Africa. They’ll now have troops and a naval base in Africa. So moving troops half way around the world to fill a power vacuum they can sort of do now, in a few years they will be very good at it.

I prefer to deal with China where China is - in China, not at the Rockies!

So, if so, would the California counties that want to remain in the USA be allowed to do so?

And would all citizens of California automatically become citizens of Mexico? What about the ones who don't want to? Just the registered Democrat voters?

Bottom line, it is their right, if they choose as a body.

It was considered a natural right (check out various secession movements) until Lincoln worried about all those possibilities like you do. Losing this, losing that, etc.

So did Britain worry, and they lost. They survived.

Let them go. I could come up with just as many what-if scenarios as you. You seem a bit paranoid that losing CA will completely change our balance in the world. Absurd.

Talk of secession is bluster.

So lets not talk of it, lets instead talk of expulsion.

I dont see this happening either. I lived in SoCal for 5 years before getting the heck out. The vast majority of Californians are sick of the three big-oil companies Tesoro, Vallero, and Chevron price gouging the consumer and having the government in their pockets....

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/refiners-chevron-tesoro-and-valero-each-triple-california-profits-in-first-nine-months-to-highest-ever-spike-mirrors-record-lobbying-spending-says-consumer-watchdog-300182086.html

...to top it off Gov. Brown imposed a $.12 gas tax hike in 2017 and $2 per pack cigarette tax.

Almost all of the legal hispanics want the wetbacks to leave.

Believe it or not most (voting) Californians actually have a sensible deportment and think that California government and federal reps are idiots. They hate the fact that welfare keeps the homeless homeless and liquor stores on every corner keep em all well supplied and sauced.

When Obama allowed illegals to vote and LA county’s 10M population, and San Bernardino county’s 2M sent the popular vote to the dems, that REALLY ticked a lot of people off.

If California secedes, it will require a vote...and would very likely make for some serious civil unrest in California alone. If illegals are allowed to vote in that decision...It could get really ugly.

Do it, Cali. Can’t wait to see two less wacko Dems in the Senate and 30+ wacko Dems in the House tilt the balance of power over to the GOP. With all the illegals there for the freebies, California is as doomed as the Titanic.

I think Steve is misreading this one. Most of the other 49 states want them to secede.

#CALEXIT, make it a reality.

Why would you view secession ans a bellicose act? We should be promoting CA secession. Treaties can be created concerning water, military bases etc. You are WAY off base.

The security threat to North America is from the failed state of Mexico. The country of California would be first world country with military bases leased back to the USA. Oh the drama.

Sate secession means the entire state secedes. If parts want to organize and form new states they do so at their own risk. Further dividing California would be up to them to decide that.

States secession means state secession.
