President Trump’s “Missile Crisis” Nothing Like JFK’s

Those who think “Fake News” started with Trump and the media’s “slobbering love affair” with a U.S. president started with Obama should have seen John F. Kennedy’s term. Imagine Obama's term with no Fox News, internet or talk radio. That’s about what JFK enjoyed. And tragically, the fairy tales Kennedy’s court scribes concocted about JFK’s Pattonesque handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis prevail in media/academic circles even today.

In fact, you’d never guess this from the “think pieces” from today’s “Best and Brightest” in the Fake News media, but that Khrushchev swept the floor with Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis was a mainstream conservative conclusion throughout much of the Cold War.

Richard Nixon and Barry Goldwater, for instance, represented opposite poles of the Republican establishment of their time.

"We locked Castro's communism into Latin America and threw away the key to its removal," growled Barry Goldwater about the JFK’s Missile Crisis “solution.”

"Kennedy pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory,” complained Richard Nixon. "Then gave the Soviets squatters’ rights in our backyard."

Generals Curtis Le May and Maxwell Taylor represented opposite poles of the military establishment.

"The biggest defeat in our nation's history!" bellowed Air Force Chief Curtis Lemay while whacking his fist on his desk upon learning the details of the deal.

"We missed the big boat," complained Gen. Maxwell Taylor after learning of same.

"We've been had!" yelled then Navy Chief George Anderson upon hearing on October 28, 1962, how JFK "solved" the missile crisis. Adm. Anderson was the man in charge of the very "blockade" against Cuba.

"It's a public relations fable that Khrushchev quailed before Kennedy," wrote Alexander Haig. "The legend of the eyeball to eyeball confrontation invented by Kennedy's men paid a handsome political dividend. But the Kennedy-Khrushchev deal was a deplorable error resulting in political havoc and human suffering through the America's."

William Buckley's National Review devoted several issues to exposing and denouncing Kennedy's appeasement. The magazine's popular "The Third World War" column by James Burnham roundly condemned Kennedy's Missile Crisis solution as "America's Defeat."

Even Democratic luminary Dean Acheson despaired: "This nation lacks leadership," he grumbled about the famous “Ex-Comm meetings” so glorified in the movie Thirteen Days. "The meetings were repetitive and without direction. Most members of Kennedy's team had no military or diplomatic experience whatsoever. The sessions were a waste of time."

But not for the Soviets. "We ended up getting exactly what we'd wanted all along," snickered Nikita Khrushchev in his diaries, “security for Fidel Castro’s regime and American missiles removed from Turkey and Italy. Until today the U.S. has complied with her promise not to interfere with Castro and not to allow anyone else to interfere with Castro. After Kennedy's death, his successor Lyndon Johnson assured us that he would keep the promise not to invade Cuba."

In fact, Khrushchev prepared to yank the missiles before any “bullying” by Kennedy. “What!” Khrushchev gasped on Oct. 28th, 1962, as recalled by his son Sergei. “Is he (Fidel Castro) proposing that we start a nuclear war? “But that is insane!... Remove them (our missiles) as soon as possible! Before it’s too late. Before something terrible happens!” commanded the Soviet premier.

So much for the gallant Knights of Camelot forcing the Russians’ retreat. In fact, the Castro brothers and Che Guevara’s genocidal lust is what prompted the Butcher of Budapest to yank the missiles from their reach.

Considering the U.S. nuclear superiority over the Soviets at the time of the (so-called) Missile Crisis (five thousand nuclear warheads for us, three hundred for them) it's hard to imagine a President Nixon — much less Reagan — quaking in front of Khrushchev's transparent ruse a la Kennedy.

The genuine threat came --not from Moscow—but from the Castros and Che. “If the missiles had remained, we would have fired them against the very heart of the U.S., including New York. The victory of socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims.” (Che Guevara to Sam Russell of The London Daily Worker, November 1962.)

“Of course I knew the missiles were nuclear-armed,” responded Fidel Castro to Robert McNamara during a meeting in 1992. “That’s precisely why I urged Khrushchev to launch them. And of course Cuba would have been utterly destroyed in the exchange.”

Castro's regimes were granted new status. Let's call it MAP, or Mutually-Assured-Protection. Cuban freedom-fighters working from South Florida were suddenly rounded up for "violating U.S. neutrality laws." Some of these bewildered men were jailed, others "quarantined," prevented from leaving Dade County. The Coast Guard in Florida got 12 new boats and seven new planes to make sure Castro remained unmolested.

JFK's Missile Crisis “solution” also pledged that he immediately pull the rug out from under Cuba’s in-house freedom-fighters. Raul Castro himself admitted that at the time of the Missile Crisis his troops and their Soviet advisors were up against 179 different "bands of bandits." He labeled the thousands of Cuban anti-Communist rebels, then battling savagely and virtually alone in Cuba's countryside, with small arms shipments from their compatriots in South Florida as their only lifeline.

Kennedy's surrender to Khrushchev cut this lifeline. This ferocious guerrilla war, waged 90 miles from America's shores, might have taken place on the planet Pluto for all you'll read about it in the mainstream media and all you'll learn about it from Kennedy’s court scribes, who scribbled Kennedy’s Missile-Crisis “victory.” To get an idea of the odds faced by those betrayed Cuban rebels, the desperation of their battle and the damage they wrought, you might revisit Tony Montana during the last 15 minutes of "Scarface."

The whole crisis was caused entirely by JFKs weakeness and incompetence.

Not sure I’m buying the above. JFK faced down the Soviets and got the missles in Cuba removed. It may have been his Bay of Pigs invasion that showed weakness, but in the end, JFK defended our nation by calling the Soviets’ bluff. Funny how a democrat at that time was more a leader, conservative, and nationalist than most GOPe nowadays.

I was alive at that time, and while Jan, heard much about exactly what this article talks about. There were people that recognized Kennedy’s incompetence and there were people that hung his picture up on their wall next to a picture of Christ. I kid you not.

The sequence of events went like this:
1-U.S. missiles to Turkey (and the article says Italy)
2-Soviet missiles to Cuba
3-Soviet missiles removed from Cuba
4-U.S. missiles removed from Turkey

Only by ignoring events 1,4 and calling events 2,3 “The Cuban Missile Crisis” can Kennedy come out looking like he won.

Make no doubt about it, Khrushchev got exactly what he wanted: the missiles removed from Turkey.

JFK faced down the Soviets and got the missles in Cuba removed.

After we agreed to their terms. Kind of like how a robber 'removes' the knife from your throat after you give him your wallet.

JFK was told by the military not to put the Jupiter missiles in Turkey because they were clearly a first strike weapon. Because of the time required to fuel them that is all they could be used for and that the Soviets would respond. Then he goes to his first meeting with Khrushchev and gets lectured like an addled school boy. Next come the Berlin Wall with no response.

In reality JFK took us to the brink not because of national security but because he could not take another smack down by the Soviets and remain viable politicaly. Thus the Cuban missile crisis.

After the Bay of Pigs and the Gary Powers U-2 matter, then the Vienna Conference where Kennedy was punked by a tough Kruschev, JFK was perceived by the Soviets as a rich kid, a playboy, and weak.
They knew the truth about PT-109 and his serious physical disabilities, even if the American public got the mushroom treatment from our press about these and other things concerning America’s bootlegger dynasty, while their coterie of scribes made myth from the reality.
Kennedy almost killed all of us because of his feckessness.

Nevertheless now he’s `St. John’—while President Trump receives the full fury of the MSM daily while he tries to extricate us from the numerous geo-global problems bequeathed to him by the Democrats and their fierce #nevertrumper allies, both of whom never met a war they didn’t like.

Just as well we removed the missiles from Turkey. They were Thor missiles. Liquid fuelled. Had to be fuelled immediately before launch. Stood unprotected on a pad, not in a silo. They were an invitation to the Soviets to destroy them before they could be used. During a crisis, they would have invited attack instead of deterring it.

In our "preferred" scenario, the Soviets would have rolled their tanks into West Germany. We would then have launched those missiles at the advancing Soviet forces, as well as at targets in the USSR. But in reality the Soviets would have knocked out those missiles before we could fuel them, let alone launch them

From the Soviet perspective, it was "obvious" that those missiles were intended as a first strike force, since they wouldn't survive to be a retaliatory force. They invited a pre-emptive attack instead of deterring attack.

Back then the press made their man the hero. Now they do everything they can to destroy their man’s opponent.

“JFK is a WWII hero!”

“Trump is a sexual predator!’

You left out that the Soviets considered JFKs habit of f#cking anything that walked by, three times a day, fueled by "Dr Feelgood's Magic Needle", as something less than admirable, and KNEW that he was half stoned, ALL THE TIME.

You might also point out that Bobby MacNamara was briefed about the lie of a "missle gap", that didn't exist. He was so horrified at what he learned that he was constantly in a fight to eliminate "Launch On Warning" as our prevention against a nuclear exchange. (There was no point in attacking empty launch sites, but that is what Bobby wanted.)

If you study history, you come to realize that democrat presidents are the worst thing in the world.

Here’s a scenario: Soviets roll tanks into W. Germany. We fuel the missiles in Turkey. Soviets exit W. Germany.

Remember his iconic rocking chair? He suffered from Addison’s disease and at times had to wear a full back brace. If not for cortisone shots and a cocktail of other injections, he would have been bed ridden.
Of course, his court scribes Sorenson, White, and other ghost writers for `author’ JFK tried to sell the lie that it was a war injury. For which he received the Navy Cross, thanks to his Nazi-loving father, instead of the courts martial that his commander wanted.
As you say he still felt well enough from time-to-time to chase any tail that walked by, like another Democrat. Not brother Bobby, though they shared women. Yeah, it’s hard to keep them straight.
Nixon recognized that MAD was the only responsive strategy, if preemptive strikes were off the table. Republicans, at least until `88 (and starting again in 2016) were always cleaning up after a kids’ party.

Just keep this in mind ...

Secretly, the United States also agreed that it would dismantle all U.S.-built Jupiter MRBMs, which had been deployed in Turkey against the Soviet Union

The ABM treaty with the USSR refuted the notion that the USSR would never strike first, as they insisted.

Each country was allowed one ABM site. The US elected to protect our ICBM silos. Russia elected to defend Moscow.

What this tells you is that Russia had no need to protect their strike sites because they would be empty. They prepared for the counter-strike. Meanwhile, US cities were completely vulnerable.

"Launch On Warning" was what frightened MacNamara. The SIOP, Strategic Integrated Operational Plan, handed to him by Eisenhower and the JSC, was that the intelligence agencies would advise POTUS if the Soviets were preparing for a preemptive attack. (Remember, we were actually listening to their telephone conversations, between Moscow and the Eastern missile bases, by tapping an underwater cable.) We would then unleash Hell, first. Faster on the draw, no more Pearl Harbors.

(By 1960 we were targeting social clubs and police stations in medium sized towns, for lack of any more unharmed and important targets in both the USSR AND China.) We had over 3500 ICBMs, SLBMs, and SAC bombers on instantaneous standby. The Soviets knew this, even if our own public did not. The Soviets had cut all kinds of safety corners, using liquid fuel engines, that reduced reliability and accuracy. While by 1960, we had the George Washington class boomers, with 16 missiles, the Soviet only had the one, catastrophic, K-19, with 3.

Another little Cold War fact: Mao thought that a preemptive attack was a good idea, since he felt that SOME Chinese, and him, would survive to declare victory. The USSR was horrified, and this was a major reason that the two communist powers started to split.

What all this means is that the Republicans handed JFK an absolute winning hand, and the sex crazed stoner pissed it away, with MacNamara's "Measured Response." tactic. Naturally, democrats STILL think the Kennedys are saints.
