Hogan calls Peace Cross ruling 'outrageous,' vows to fight

Gov. Larry Hogan called a federal appeals court ruling that a cross-shaped war memorial in Prince George’s County unconstitutional "outrageous" and an "overreach," and vowed that his administration would fight it.

In a social media post, the Republican governor wrote Friday that he has passed by the memorial in Bladensburg known as the Peace Cross thousands of times. He said the 40-foot Latin cross is an "incredible tribute" to veterans.

A divided U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit found Wednesday that the World War I Veterans Memorial “aggrandizes the Latin cross” to the point that an observer would conclude that the government entity that owns and maintains it is endorsing Christianity.

Hogan, who was raised in Prince George’s County, identified himself in his post as “a native Prince Georgian.”

“The idea that memorializing our soldiers killed in battle on foreign lands to make the world safe for democracy is somehow unconstitutional goes against everything we stand for as Americans,” he wrote. “Enough is enough.”

>> “aggrandizes the Latin cross”

Should be no quarter for those that assert such BS.

Isn’t it amazing, that crosses and memorials and Confederate monuments stand for centuries, but then , in this politically correct era, suddenly these objects violate constitutional rights. They don’t just offend the sensibilities of liberal radical does, they actually go to court and File lawsuits over them.

It’s a crazy world we live in.

I heard someone suggest they chop the arms off of the cross, then it wouldn’t be a religious symbol anymore, and then would pass muster with the atheist types who file these lawsuits.

Every Justice on the 4th Court should have to clean the crosses at Arlington and reconsider their ruling. With a toothbrush.

It is a calculated war on Christianity by the left. Stalin made the church his target when taking over the Soviet Union. The far left anti-christian communists continue that war today.

The only brief that should be sent to these Federal Courts are those saying the State of Maryland does not recognize the Constitutional authority of this court to rule on this matter.

Because it doesn’t

So if a muslim soldier was buried in a veterans cemetery and requested the Islamic crescent on his headstone, that would be considered a government endorsement of Islam. Riggghhttt...somehow I think the leftist scum judges attempting to rule this country would say the crescent is OK, but crosses are not.

What would happen if the governor refused to take it down? Would the US Marshals arrest him? Just for once, I would like to see someone say NO to these types of illegitimate rulings. MAKE the Court of Appeals come tear it down themselves.

The Constitution is supposed to be a shield against this kind of idiocy.

one would think that atheists would love to see crosses because they are reminders that Christians got crucified- one would think that would make atheists happy, no?

I blame most of the degradation of our governing institutions and society on the Scotus.

Reversal of just a dozen or so hideous, unconstitutional opinions would let the people restore America’s first principles.

But, the 17th Amendment guaranteed a federal bench infested with social justice, Anti-10th Amendment warriors. As long as they occupy this highest of high ground, the scotus, there is no hope for a return to free-government.

Sell the ground where the cross sits to a private organization or person and tell the atheists to pack sand.

to the point that an observer would conclude that the government entity that owns and maintains it is endorsing Christianity.

Such utter absurd BS. The court thinks it is a religious symbol but dreams up the “observer”, like they always do.

Any ole observer might not even know that it is a religious symbol. You cannot make such an assumption. What if the “observer” was Hindu...does he know it a Christian symbol? Not likely.

Hope Hogan wins this one.....
