An Indiana Representative is forcing the establishment media to look in the mirror and face their hypocrisy.
He is proposing the First Amendment in Indiana be treated the same as the Second Amendment. His proposal is that journalists be required to apply for a license before they are allowed to publish.
If they have felony convictions, they might not be allowed to publish.
Lucas, from Seymour, has been critical of the medias coverage of his efforts to repeal a state law that requires a permit to carry a handgun.
He has stated reporters, columnists and editorial boards mischaracterize his idea, which is sometimes referred to as constitutional carry.
If I was as irresponsible with my handgun as the media has been with their keyboard, Id probably be in jail, Lucas said.
The proposal would require professional journalists to submit an application with Indiana State Police. They would be fingerprinted and would have to pay $75 for a lifetime license.
Why should a Government which is doing what it believes to be right allow itself to be criticised? It would not allow opposition by lethal weapons. Ideas are much more fatal things than guns. And as to the freedom of the Press, why should any man be allowed to buy a printing press and disseminate pernicious opinions calculated to embarrass the Government?

What is a journalist?
Attending one class, having a degree, or general writing skill.
The idea that a “journalist” is something special is malarkey.
Our founding fathers could not have foreseen the internet and TV/Cable/Satelite! They only said, “freedom of the press” so only printing presses are protected under the first amendment. Those other tools are, in fact, assault weapons and should be regulated!
I like that idea. Regulate the right of journalists to publish the same way they try to regulate the right of Americans to keep and carry a gun.
Further require that any journalist take an ethics course and have 12 hours of professional training each year to keep their license.
This reminds me of an incident involving Bobby Knight, IU basketball coach. Happened a good 20 or so years ago. He was being interviewed after a game and the journalist was getting kind of snarky. The journalist implied that being a sports reporter was just as important to the college sport as being a coach and each were equally trained in their profession. Knight responded, "You will write an article about the game and have it published in the paper tomorrow. I know I could write just as good an article about the game for your newspaper to publish. But you can't coach basketball."
> What is a journalist?
That’s an old occupation (like “buggy whip maker”). It was on the decline for a long time, but Dan Rather ended it in 2004.
“News organizations” that hire “journalists” have been replaced by “Media organizations” that hire “activists” and “entertainers”. They were afraid to admit the transition until Rather showed them that more people wanted “fake but accurate” entertainment than to know what’s going on in the world. (and by “accurate” they mean “consumers want to believe it”, not “true” in the journalistic sense).
What is a journalist?
What a great gig.
What a great debating strategy!! And the second amendment rights to keep and bear arms are even worded stronger than the freedom of the press right is -shall not be infringed!!!! Shall not be infringed!!
And limit them to 10 words a day, and only about hunting.
I mean who really needs more?
lifetime license?
renewal every two years with mandatory continuing education courses in ethics.
If they are mentally ill (crazy) should they be allowed to publish?
