Woody Allen has said he is "sad" for Harvey Weinstein as the producer faces numerous allegations of sexual assault.
The filmmaker said he had heard rumours but not "these horror stories" after a number of women came forward to accuse Weinstein of assault.
Weinstein has been credited with reviving Allen's career after Allen was accused of abusing Dylan Farrow, his daughter with actress Mia Farrow.
The allegation emerged in the early 1990s following Allen's separation from Farrow.
The actress left Allen after discovering he was having an affair with her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.
"No one ever came to me or told me horror stories with any real seriousness," Allen told the BBC. "And they wouldn't, because you are not interested in it. You are interested in making your movie.
"But you do hear a million fanciful rumours all the time. And some turn out to be true and some - many - are just stories about this actress, or that actor."

Mr. Allen was taken to court my Mia Farrow who accused Mr. Allen of improper activity with their adopted daughter.
In the end it was proven Mia Farrow was lying and that there had never been any improper sexual activity.
Once the child was of consenting legal Mr. Allen eventually began a relationship with the woman and they are together still.
It’s Mia Farrow who’s the evil person in this situation.
Woody Allen did nothing illegal - Mia Farrow did.

It was very, very sad and tragic that the women had to go through what they did — he did say that in equal measure. I agree that it is a no win situation for all involved, and at least Allen didn’t deny knowing anything beforehand, that seems about the least of it.

Regardless of any legal issues, Mr. Allen most certainly did something very immoral.
If you enter a relationship with a woman who is a mother, then her children should be forever eliminated from the global pool of your possible future sex partners - either based on the sanctity of motherhood and/or to whatever degree you become a father figure to her children - a role you should never use, to any degree, as a springboard to some future romantic relationship.
Please tell me you are smarter than that, or maybe you are “Woody” himself trying to get us to believe your fake story
