Eagles WR gets baptized at the team's hotel pool before Panthers game
CBS Sports ^ | October 12, 2017 | Cody Benjamin

One of the driving forces of the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles, or at least the unity behind the team's hot start in 2017 -- Philly is 5-1 after Thursday night's 28-23 victory over the Carolina Panthers -- has been faith.

Whether through quarterback Carson Wentz's infectious vow to play for an "Audience of One" or a collection of Eagles sharing their Christian testimonies by way of their own Bible app devotionals, the team has showcased its band of believing brothers as much as it has a trust in Wentz as the face of the franchise.

And that band of brothers appeared to expand Thursday, when wide receiver Marcus Johnson shared via Twitter a picture of himself getting baptized in the pool at the team's Charlotte, North Carolina hotel, surrounded by Eagles teammates.

Wentz appears to be among the group of Eagles whose heads are bowed and hands are interlocked around the makeshift baptismal pool in Johnson's photo. Tight end Zach Ertz, offensive guard Stefen Wisniewski, tight end Trey Burton, linebacker Jordan Hicks and backup quarterback Nick Foles also appear to be among those in attendance.

Philadelphia is no stranger to impromptu baptisms. Tales of spiritual awakening in the team's own practice facility surfaced in 2016, when several players also donned Easter-themed cleats during the NFL's My Cleats, My Cause campaign.

I doubt CBS would be covering a story about this if not for the fallout from the NFL protests.

It's something else to thank Trump for.

Exactly. The NFL and networks must be in bigger trouble than they are letting on. No way this would be a story two years ago.

I am pumped. I would rather be counted for Christ vs all the other nonsense which surrounds the NFL.

I suspect Jesus is a Saints fan.

Wentz is very talented and the real deal. Remember the Roman infrastructure was used to spread the word and change the world. I hate the NFL but I also hate to give up on the culture wars.

Wentz is from my alma mater and North Dakota kid... Don’t watch much NFL anymore but try and catch some of his game when on TV.

Lots of happy horsepucky stories about our pro football team on the local news. Like nothing ever happened. And yet another reason why I hate the MSM and the local news.

I’ve been an Eagles fan since I can remember first watching televised games in the ‘50’s and I was really glad the team drafted Wentz. By the way, there is a Wentz’s Church just down the road from the little ville I grew up in. It was the only one in the denomination. Up the road a mile or two is the Schwenkfelder Church. Same deal. Only one of them. Former Senator Richard Schweiker and his family were members.

Of course it wouldn't be written about. Tim Tebow got ostracized but he gets praise heaped upon him. Of course it could be a pass because of race.

Either way I congratulate the young man.

I’d be more vigilant about being targeted by Satan than being ostracized by the MSM if I were him. Babes in Christ are so vulnerable.

Bump. Praise God. I live in Louisiana and I know how bad racism is here (white versus black) or (black versus white).

Please end racism.

But my priorities are:

God, family, ccountry.

My brother gave a NOLA Saints shirt, but I can't wear it anymore. And what I thought I could do I have violated as I have either chanel surfed when games are on, or watched too much of a game.

Prayers for my family. And I really admire Drew Brees as a person. I have met Roger Staubach at church and I have an interesting story about Roger Staubach. Roger da dodger was always a good person.

It is a shame there is so much RACIAL hatred in our country.

It hurts our country when people spread false rumors.

I honestly think that President Trump is trying to turn a huge mess created by Obama around. And he is trying to drain the swamp.

It is interesting how I came across my brother today.
