John McCain is the Colin Kaepernick of the Republican Party.
Now the repubs are in the process of defining whether the party is conservative or progressive.
Another way is whether the repubs are going to be an echo of Democrats, as they have been behind the scenes for 50 years, or a real alternative that lives up to their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution and limited government.
The line is between a Constitutional Republic and a Socialist/Fascist oligarchy.
That analogy works on so many levels.
Let us not forget that the Republican party has done this before.
In 1860, many Republicans absolutely despised their first Republican president, Lincoln. Many sided with democrats, took measures to pull him down and to make life harder for him. This occurred during the prosecution of a national civil war.
They were only mildly better during the Reagan administration.
They have rarely figured out how to use their power as a minority much less as a majority to make things happen.
They are absolute crap at being representatives of the people. They promise the moon at election time and after they are in office they moon their constituents to show their contempt for us.
The water lrvel in the Swamp has been lowered to show where the roots of the RINOs are intertwined. Parasites that they are.
The Never-Trump mentality of the author prevents him from understanding very much about the current political scene.
Paul Waldman forgot we also control the Presidency and the Supreme Court. Maybe our willingness to disagree with each other (the opposite of group-think) and to hold each side accountable is part of our strength.
Think about it Paul Waldman... Diversity of ideas makes us strong. Liberals' idea of 'diversity' is 'level of skin pigmentation' and 'sexual hole of choice' - silly interpretations of diversity...
If we had a “republican” President, I would agree with this. But Trump has never been the card carrying poster boy that Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham represent.
I am fine with that. But I am not surprised when he does not act like a traidtional Republican.
I believe Trump would gladly sign those bills and loudly champion Congress for working for the People instead of against them!
Whats even more, these same Republicans could go on disliking Trump and even continuing to wish someone else had won the GOP Primary and beaten Hillary!
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
“Now imagine if Republicans were to fail in what is always their central policy goal: cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations. It could happen, particularly if Trump barrels clumsily through the process the way he did with health care. Bloomberg News reported this week that while the White House had been saying for some time they wanted to eliminate the deduction for state and local taxes, Trump “grew angry when he learned that the change would hurt some middle-income taxpayers.” In other words and this should surprise no one he has little idea what’s in his own tax plan.”
Republicans > Republicans (RINOs disappear)
True, but they don’t work for We the People. Their careers and livelihoods (and perhaps their very lives) depend on the super-wealthy and powerful globalists who are unrelenting in their lust for power.
Hold on: Is Trump conservative or progressive in this discussion?
AMEN!
This is a once a century opportunity to actually get what republicans have been "promising" to their constituents.
Send Trump their conservative dream list and put it on his desk.
He'd sign it in a heartbeat.
Congress would win, Trump would win, and most importantly, the American people would win.
. FGS, look how well the economy is doing.
Instead of bragging, and taking credit, the republicans would just rather oppose Trump (for whatever reason, but it's stupid) and call him names.
Another Never-Trumper hard at work distorting reality.
DING...DING...DING..... WINNER
“Their careers and livelihoods (and perhaps their very lives) depend on the super-wealthy and powerful globalists who are unrelenting in their lust for power.”
There was a thread a few days ago about the large donors being unhappy with the Senate. Being rich and a large donor does not get you in the establishment club. I am not sure who the establishment is. Perhaps we could work with the non-establishment Democrats to pass an amendment that nobody with a degree from Harvard or Yale can hold a Federal government job or be an elected federal official.
