While it is unknown whether the DOJ order came directly from Sessions, the move is likely to be seen in a political light given Weinstein's friendship with Trump foe Hillary Clinton.

I don't think so. There's previous examples of people fleeing the country to avoid prosecution. The suspension of passport could have been from the State Attorney general. They can put holds and cancel passports too. Just ask any father who has to pay large child support payments.

No doubt Hillary has already spoken with her “Problem Eliminator” in regards to this Weinstein problem.
Somebody with the resources and connections of Weinstein isn't going to hindered in slightest by taking away his passport, he could easily jump on a private jet or mega yacht and buy his way into many countries. I think what has probably happened is his legal "dream team" has determined that he is better off fighting it out in court and that any prosecution is going to be difficult because of the time elapsed and most boils down to "he said, she said", just look at Bill Cosby to see how hard a successful conviction is if you have money and power.
Well, That’s the hollywood version of the story. The truth is, high profile case like Weinstein limits where he can go. Maybe he could make it in Israel. I don’t know what their attitude might be. But a Jew on the run? It isn’t going to be easy.

Why would Weinstein stay in the US at the request of the FBI so they can investigate him? That logic doesn’t track.

So Weinstein commits a few rapes of willing leftist starlets and Jeffie Sessions at the Justice Dept and his boys move fast (for them) and spring into action to ensure that he doesn't get away.
