Mike Ditka apologizes for comment on racial oppression
Fox News ^ | October 11, 2017

Mike Ditka has apologized for saying he wasn’t aware of any racial oppression over the last 100 years in the United States.

The famed Chicago Bears coach came under fire for making the comments during a radio interview on Monday about NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. He issued an apology the next day, saying he was talking about professional football and not society as a whole.

“I have absolutely seen oppression in society in the last 100 years,” the Hall of Fame tight end and Super Bowl-winning coach said to WGN-TV in Chicago. “The interview was about the NFL and related issues. That’s where my head was at.”

The 77-year-old old Ditka previously has made harsh comments about players who take a knee, which has sparked fierce debate about issues such as patriotism and protest. He said he would bench players who didn’t stand during the anthem.

Ditka went further on Monday, saying he didn’t know what “social injustices” players are protesting.

“There has been no oppression in the last 100 years that I know of,” he said.

why did he apologize? For someone who should have said YES to the GOP to run in Illinois against a certain Kenyan Moron, we would not have the worst 8 years in US history.

Mike. Never apologize when you speak the truth. That’s only common sense.

Well yeah, he's a total football head. What's wrong with these people that take things out of context so they can be offended?

Geez, why does everyone have to reverse themselves with an apology these days. I praised him for saying what he did a few days ago but am taking it back with this silly apology.

The irony is that racial issues got better (in reality, despite these harping on anything to be offended), but society as a whole got worse, much worse. It all went topsy turvy.

These days, it’s like blacks have victim-envy for their ancestors. We want to be victims!

White guy and black guy apply for the same job. Both are equally qualified. The black guy gets the job. Sometimes he is not equally qualified.

The same scenario plays out for white guy verses women, and any minority and gays.

Yes there is racial oppression!

PS
My wife is not all white. See is a lovely shade of brown from Mexico and educated in the United States with several degrees and not degrees in the liberal arts!

If racial privilege is truly eliminated the liberals will not like the results.

I don’t think blacks have a perfect life. Nobody does.

Blacks today have it a lot better than black people 50 or 100 or 150 years ago. There’s no question of this.

What I would say today is that blacks have the opportunity make it just like anyone else. The difficulties they experience today are a lot closer to the difficulties of members of other races.

Put your nose to the grind-stone. Work hard. Set clearly defined goals. Attain them.

Almost anyone can find a job for $10.00 an hour. If two people meet and both have $10.00 an hour jobs, we’re talking over $40k income per year. At $15, it’s over $60k per year.

While that’s not territory of the rich, it is territory of the surviving pretty well.

All this racial strife is based on vaporwear.

There was absolutely racial discrimination including banning black players in the NFL in the ‘30’s and ‘40’s and probably beyond. It was a stupid thing to say but he should have amended the comment without apologizing.

Why would someone think there has been racial oppression in the United States at any time since 1917?

Coach Ditka, you brought so much happiness to an entire city. My father was a life-long Bears season ticket holder; we were all singing The Super Bowl Shuffle. :)

You didn’t owe an apology. The media twisted your words just to make you look bad.

God Bless you and your family.

I really hate the MSM.

They might try stop killing each other and putting their energy elsewhere.

My father’s caregiver grew up in the same Chicago neighborhood that my dad did. Her parents still live there (on the South Side). She is petrified to visit her family and gets out of there as quickly as she can. And, oh yes, she is black. Thugs have trapped people in their own homes.
