So what. What’s the big deal? Well, it’s apparently a big deal to many – particularly it seems to publications on the left like The Atlantic. Yesterday, The Atlantic wrote a piece entitled, “Who Will Lead the Republican Moderates?” lamenting the exit next year of representative Dent.

The question should be "who will lead the democrat republicans"? What is this "moderate" b.s.?

People have a hard time thinking 4th-dimensionally when it comes to the political realm. They assume that inside-the-beltway politicians have an inner core, when in actuality they are - with a very few exceptions - self-serving bastards. When they see their buds getting blown away (politically speaking), they will switch to the winning side faster than a desert Arab in an intervillage battle.

It will take a very long time to right this ship of state, and we need to get rid of these UniParty GOP mountebanks as best we can. Not all will be dispatched right away, but we can at least burn the butts of the hangers on, who, while they won’t actually see the light, will ease off on the MAGA fighting.

If you're sitting in front of a computer typing comments, you can just get by on bile and abuse, whatever your political views are. If you hold an elective office, you can't do that. You'll find yourself in situations and confronted with problems, where the standard insults and one-liners may not be enough to see you through.

And how long have you been observing the political landscape? I've been doing it for 50 years. You?

if a R is squishy, meaning what? somewhat ‘moderate?’ but still sane....then I don’t like it but i can live with maybe having to convince him/her on things sometimes

but R’s that are in the opposition camp..like McShame and his bff Lindsay and Collins and the polish-sounding named senator i can never remember how to spell... flake? a couple more need to GO! these people are obstacles, deliberate obstacles to any progress at all, they are either left wing commies or else, more probably, just sold out to the SorozNazi insurgency

“Who will lead the Republican moderates?”
Why the Democrats will, of course, just like they always have.

It would be nice if they would just keep following Charlie Dent - get in line and get out, losers.

+1.

According to the article: These are ulcer-inducing times for moderate Republicans in Congress,” they write.

To which I say, get used to the new normal or there's the exit, stage left.

When McTurtle, Ryno, Grahamnesy and soon to be gone, McNuts, are removed, then I’ll be happy! And, with Bob Corksucker leaving, all would be good!

Observing isn't hard. Getting things done is, especially when the country is so evenly divided.

You'd have to work in situations that weren't ideal and with people who were unreliable or even hostile to get even the smallest changes made in Washington.

You're right that the temptation for politicians is to go native and become creatures of the political swamp.

What's the temptation for the rest of us? Maybe it's thinking that all the abuse and insults are useful and valuable and actually achieve something.

Well, aren't you the pompous gasbag. Tell me, are jumping to conclusions the only exercise you get? "Observing isn't hard"...are you implying that all I do is observe? I'll have you know that I have been DIRECTLY involved in politics since 1965, when as a teenager I worked with my mother campaigning for the election of New York Mayor John Lindsay. I was a Democrat then, and also was involved in George McGovern's Presidential campaign. I entered the seminary after that and laid off politics for a few years, but after leaving and getting married, my wife and I worked for the campaign of John Anderson. We were at his election night party in DC (we had fun even though he lost of course).

After that, I campaigned directly for the re-election of Ronald Reagan, making phone calls and knocking on doors.

I did NOT like GHW Bush. I took a distinct Libertarian turn at the time, and decided to work for the campaign of Ron Paul and Andre Marrou. I liked what Newt was doing in the House, and began to look more locally at political campaigns. I'd been living in Washington DC and was then living in PG County Maryland, and campaigned for candidates whom I liked.

I could go on, but I've got to get to work; besides, I don't particularly feel like typing any more. Bottom line: I've been ACTIVE ever since.

"Observing isn't hard" [spit]

"You'd have to work" [spit]

I've been working in politics for 50 years, pal. How about you?

Good but if you went to Washington you'd find yourself working with different people in a different way trying to please an electorate that had different views.

You didn't read a damned thing I wrote, did you? I've LIVED in Washington DC and its suburbs since 1974, idiot! I still do.

Good lord, you are thick. I'm done with you.

I didn't get that far. I was too busy laughing when you called me a "pompous gasbag" and then started telling me your whole life story in detail.

When I said "if you went to Washington," I meant, "if you were in Congress and were responsible to constituents who didn't always share your views and you wanted to get reelected," not "if you were a libertarian crank who happened to live in the DC suburbs."

Good lord, you are thick. I'm done with you.

Same here.

Well, whatever psychological protection you use to prevent others from telling you the truth about yourself.

"libertarian crank" - you don't digest information very well, either.

Erects psychological walls to prevent painful introspection; lack of reading comprehension; makes hasty judgments before learning or considering all the facts. An interesting profile, to be sure; matches your Freeper name perfectly.
