NYTimes ‘Conservative’ Columnist Bret Stephens: Repeal the Second Amendment
Breitbart ^ | 5 Oct 2017 | AWR HAWKINS

Posted on 10/06/2017 8:28:14 AM PDT by Mr. Mojo

An October 5 New York Times op-ed by Bret Stephens calls for an all-out repeal of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

He introduces the op-ed by claiming “more guns means more murder” and transitions from there to claim that guns were only used for “justifiable homicide” 268 times in 2015. He cites an FBI Extended Homicide Data Table for this figure but the table only tracks the number of times a private citizen shot and killed a felon during the commission of felony.

Obviously a the number of times a private citizen justifiably shoots a felon is going to be far lower than the overall number of times a citizen uses a gun justifiably, so that FBI table actually undercuts his point rather than bolstering it.

Stephens goes on to suggest that the idea of armed citizenry in general–and the need for a group like the iconic Minutemen in particular–is long past. He says our defense now lies in missiles and the like. Moreover, he makes clear that he finds the whole idea of a citizenry being armed to repel tyranny quite “curious” to begin with.

He then goes on to explain what he sees as a quagmire. He does not believe the NRA has bought influence and he believes late night host Jimmy Kimmel is wrong to say the NRA has. Instead, Stephens believes the NRA has influence with Congress because the NRA is “popular.” At the same time, he does not believe the so-called “common sense” gun laws pushed to counter the NRA really make sense. He believes the laws are “feckless” and simply “tinker at the margins” of what could be done.

Stephens then unveils his ultimate suggestion–“Repeal the Second Amendment.”

He acknowledges the difficulty of accomplishing this

Bret Stephens is a conservative columnist like Jimmy Kimmel is a political analyst.

100,000,000 million killed by their own government in the 20th century alone.

We’re allowed to have missiles? ;-)

Go for it, NYT!

Their cronies control 18 states. Real Americans control the rest. How are they going to get 2/3 of the states to approve giving tyrants absolute power?

Many on the Left would love to see the 1st Amendment repealed as well.

I have another suggestion.

Repeal all of the unconstitutional gun laws starting with NFA ‘34 and GCA ‘68

I kind of like the idea that left-wing journalists and publishers would be thrown in jail for criticizing Conservatives. Can we get the Democrats to support repeal of the First Amendment? It would help us make Islam illegal as well.

I’ll tell you what ... if the Democrats repeal the First Amendment, I’ll be willing to read their position paper (if it gets published) on why we should repeal the Second Amendment. But ... First things first.

"He says our defense now lies in missiles and the like."

That's either dishonest or moronic. Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, [<----even without much terrain cover or concealment], Vietnam, Ukraine,... A foreign enemy couldn't take this country with missiles alone, including nukes, unless Americans are disarmed and short on supplies as a result of being disarmed.

If he had any military combat training experience, he either failed to learn or failed to want the best for our country.

100,000,000 million? I think that that’s a bit high.

The self unmasking by faux conservatives in all forms of the MMS continues at a high rate.

It has to be a Trump effect.

This was one nut job. He planned it well. He had some money. He evidently had lots of free time.

It was awful.

Now, imagine that there are more nut jobs out there. Many more.

And they have access to many people trained to kill.

They have access to Army armored vehicles and helicopters.

They use them against Americans, say at Waco.

They did.

And the government employees followed the orders of the Democrats.

There is no discussion about gun control.

None.

The Democrats sent in Army armored vehicles against American civilians because those Americans wouldn’t OBEY them.

The Democrats will kill you if you don’t OBEY them.

And they have lots of ideas that they want obeyed.

Nope.

No gun control.

Never.

Molon Labe.

Missiles? Cool!
Maybe our Beltway cud-chewers could repeal the law of gravity while they’re at it.
I would like to be able to leap hundreds of feet like John Carter of Mars, hurling missiles.
