Three U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers were killed and two others were wounded Wednesday in an ambush in the west African country of Niger.

U.S. Africa Command confirmed that a joint patrol of Green Berets and Nigerien soldiers was attacked in the southwestern part of Niger, near the border with Mali. Officials told Fox News that between eight and 10 troops were part of the patrol.

Officials told the Associated Press that the commandos were likely attacked by Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

The officials added that the two wounded U.S. soldiers were taken to Niamey, the capital, and are in stable condition.

It’s been an open secret since 2014. Nigeria set up a Special Operations command (NASOC) to deal with Boko incursions into Nigeria from southern Niger. Our SF has been over there “assisting” and “training” the Nigerian SF.

“Niger doesn’t even show up on the chart.”

The chart provided indicates “purchased by US nuclear power plant”. Just becaue we aren’t one of their main customers, does not neccessarily mean they are not a major source of Uranium ore. Further, it may illustrate more aptly our interests there, that is to disrupt the supply to NK, Iran etc.

Call me an isolationist, but that’s a bridge too far.

It has to do with Boko Haram and historically separatist (we all recall Biafra) indigenous movements in Nigeria and the Niger basin. The muzzie regime in Nigeria is just not muzzie enough.

Perhaps, but we have countless “bridges too far” missions going on as we speak. The only reason we know of this one is the report of our fallen soldiers. We have guys outside the wire on all points on the globe, protecting our country and our interests. I have to trust those who plan and send our men into harm’s way have more information than we do, and it’s a righteous cause.

Can’t now. That’ll tell Boko Haram that killing US troops yields dividends. Gotta get right in their face and hurt them. Disabuse them of this notion.

“Niger is the world’s fourth-ranking producer of uranium. In 2011 it produced 4351 tU, and cumulative production from the country was 114,346 tU to the end of 2010. About 62,000 tU of this was from underground, and 52,000 t from open pit mining.”

Why did Obama/Hillary sell 20% of the US’ uranium to Russia in the Russia One debacle?
