Does anyone question why we have Special Forces in any of those countries?
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces guarding our country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
It would be nice if every US Soldier on a mission such of this would have drone coverage. I know it expensive, they have to work on the cost.
Why do we have people in Niger?
Anyone recall a congressional debate on sending troops to Africa?

Why are we there?
Let’s speculate about possible good reasons; there are some. 1. A limited number of trained specialists might be able to keep an eye on, and disrupt al qaeda from establishing an unbeatable position and training bases in Mali and Niger. 2. We might be able to foster good relations with, and “buck up” forces and groups that are favorable toward us. (Remember, black Africans have been victimized by islamists for centuries and they are tired of it.) 3. Maybe they are there just to hunt and kill islamists for sport or profit, doing good work as they go. 4. Maybe they were there just to do actual recon on the ground that could not be accomplished by aerial surveillance.
Who knows? But, God bless these young Americans and comfort their families.
