MSNBC Republican: 'You're a Bad Parent If You Have a Gun in the House'
MRC NewsBusters ^ | 10/04/2017 | Brad Wilmouth

Posted on 10/04/2017 12:42:19 PM PDT by ForYourChildren

On Tuesday's The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, frequent MSNBC Republican guest David Frum lamented over the trend towards loosening gun laws -- even after high-profile mass shootings -- and then predicted that it would be necessary to convince gun owners that "you're a bad parent if you have a gun in the house" to get the public to support more gun restrictions.

After Frum had spent time lamenting that since the Newtown school shootings in 2012, there have been a loosening of gun laws in many states, host O'Donnell followed up by suggesting that most Americans agree with a push for more gun laws, reacting to fellow guest Nevada Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen. Frum conceded that he found it "a painful thing to say," as he complained that "there is something very wrong with the American gun culture," citing reports that three percent of Americans own half of all guns.

Frum -- senior editor for The Atlantic -- went on to argue that Americans must be convinced that owning guns is a bad thing before they will support more gun laws:

"Until you persuade people that it is just dangerous to themselves, to their children, you're not a good parent if you have a gun in the house, you're not protecting your family, you're a bad parent if you have a gun in the house, until you drill that idea into people's heads and persuade them to change the way we changed about cigarettes and seatbelts, these technical fixes aren't going to accomplish a lot."

I grew up knowing my parents had guns in the house.
I knoew where they were, and they were never locked.

But I knew well enough to not touch them!

As I was older, I was taught to respect firearms when I shot my brother’s bb gun, and given my own pellet gun for xmas one year.

“you’re a bad parent if you have a gun in the house” and you do not teach your children how to use it and respect it properly.

Very interesting analysis.

The left attempt at gun control by trying to make gun ownership and gun owners disgusting similar to what they did with smoking.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“Smoking guns, and tobacco”

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-1215-goldberg-cigarettes-guns-20151215-column.html
Jonah Goldberg
12/15/2015

“it is worth contemplating why the gun-control movement has been a complete failure. And it might be constructive to compare the war on guns to a regulatory war liberals actually won: the war on tobacco.”

“Now cigarettes are so widely reviled that the MPAA includes smoking along with violence and sex in its warning language.”

“Because non-smokers knew smokers, the war on tobacco could be fought face-to-face in our homes, businesses, movie theaters, planes, trains and automobiles.”

“The absence of guns in urban liberal environments leads to a kind of Pauline Kaelism. Kael is — apocryphally — credited with saying she couldn’t believe Richard Nixon won the election because she didn’t know anyone who voted for him.”

“many urban liberals only hear about guns when they’re used in crimes, and simply can’t imagine why anyone would want one. As a result, they’re tone deaf in their arguments.”

“Barack Obama tried to explain why some rural voters were not supporting him, he infamously said that it was out of bitterness — a bitterness that caused them to “cling” to their guns and their religion.”

This cretin lives in a gated neighborhood or a secure enclave, but what about the 90% of us who need to protect our own homes?

Are there any real Republicans on the Fake News anymore? I think McEnany and Lord, it’s back to a panel full of liberals and one “Republican” like Ana Navarro.

Tell that to the parents of the kid, in Broken Arrow Oklahoma, who grabbed an AR-15 and killed three men who broke into their house who were also armed

You can have guns in the house, if the adults are in charge. We had 2 main rules when I was growing up: don’t put anything on top of the Bible, and don’t touch your father’s gun. Somehow we children were able to obey these rules. Hard for today’s children to obey any rules.

Here is another one...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“What If We Made Gun Culture Uncool Like We Did Cigarettes?”

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/cafe/guns-cigarettes-cultural-shift
10/08/2015

“Sorry, I can’t bring my kids to your place if there are unsecured guns in the house.”

“Thanks for coming over. Do you mind leaving your shoes in the hallways and your pistol off my property?”

“I can’t stay over if you keep a gun in the bedroom, especially if we’ve been drinking. Guns make things less safe when the lights go out.”

“It’s surprisingly easy to imagine a society where gun ownership is looked down upon, if not scorned outright. This already happened with smoking, ..”

“In short, we can make gun ownership uncool.”
