The Denver Broncos players say the days of kneeling for the national anthem are over -- and beginning Sunday, they will all STAND together.
The players issued a statement moments ago ... acknowledging the split this past Sunday when several players took a knee and others stood for the anthem before playing the Bills.
"Last week, members of our team joined their brothers around the NFL in a powerful display of unity ... As controversial as it appeared, we needed to show our collective strength and resolve."
But now, the players say they will be united in standing together moving forward.
"We may have different values and beliefs, but there's one thing we can all agree on: We're a team and we stand together -- no matter how divisive some comments and issues can be, nothing should ever get in the way of that."
"Starting Sunday, we'll be standing together."
Full statement:
quote:
“Last week, members of our team joined their brothers around the NFL in a powerful display of unity.
“It was an emotional time for everyone, including the fans who support us each and every week. As controversial as it appeared, we needed to show our collective strength and resolve.
“Our voices needed to be heard loud and clear.
“Make no mistake our actions were in no way a protest of the military, the flag or those who keep us safe. We have nothing but the deepest love and respect for those who protect our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
“While theres no greater country, its not perfect. Inequalities still exist, and we have work to do in ALL forms of social justice. We can all do better.
“It starts with us. We need to do our part and use our platform as NFL players to continue driving that positive change.
“Our locker room is one diverse place, and thats what makes it so special. Its where thoughtful, intelligent leaders from all different races, religions and backgrounds come together.
“We may have different values and beliefs, but theres one thing we all agree on:
“Were a team and we stand together no matter how divisive some comments and issues can be, nothing should ever get in the way of that.
“Starting Sunday, well be standing together.”
Elway put the law down?
No linking arms?
No Black Power salutes?
We’ll see.
Jones said the Cowboys would be standing ... and they kneeled and stood arm in arm in unity with the anarchists and communists.
The Broncos lost many fans when the took the knee last Sunday.
We will see tonight if the cheese heads boo ...
“social justice” “powerful”
Got it.
Message received.
Boycott!
Question is, will actions such as this get fans to come back?
Powerful display of ignorance is more like it.
Hands over hearts and nothing else assho_es.
Locking arms will be just as offensive.
Don’t do it.
I’m not a racist. Police are not the major killers of Blacks. Blacks are.
Stand, apologize, and salute that flag.
So far, I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen on Sunday.
I think I’ll take a knee and never watch NFL again anyway.
Too late.
GTHNFL, no quarter.
Too bad, so sad, your dad.
I, for one, am not fooled. They are going to have to do more than issue a few, half-hearted mea culpa's to rectify this.
This has caused the NFL and others to be scrutinized from top to bottom.
Especially how the rich, owners receive massive tax-breaks and how they got their stadiums financed and built with tax-payer dollars.
We're a nation and we stand together - no matter how divisive some comments and issues can be, nothing should never get in the way of that. And last weekend it did, and it wasn't the fans' fault and it wasn't the President's fault, it was the players', coaches', and owners' fault.
But they are united in their ignorance...
