Poll: Majority in Louisiana says NFL players should be fined or fired after anthem protests

A new poll has found that more than half of Louisiana voters surveyed think some form of punishment should befall NFL players who protest during the national anthem.

Of the 525 registered voters surveyed in a poll sponsored by the University of New Orleans, 30.2 percent said players should be fired, while an additional 26.6 percent said they should be fined. The remaining 43.2 percent answered that neither of those things should happen.

The sentiment comes following a week of leaguewide protests that saw one or more players on 18 different teams kneel during the anthem. The protests have been occurring to some degree since last season and began with then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. All 32 teams conducted some form of demonstration, with two entire teams remaining in the locker room during the anthem. The entire Steelers team stayed in the locker room except for former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva, who stood at the end of the tunnel as the anthem was performed.

The findings of the poll, which was conducted by robocall and has a margin of error of 4.28 percent, was also split along racial lines. Of the 157 black voters surveyed, 66.2 percent said nothing should happen to the players. Of the 327 white voters surveyed, only 29.4 percent said no punishment should occur.

The poll also asked whether voters believe the national anthem is "a racist institution," and whether voters approve of President Donald Trump's job performance. The increased protests during Week 3 of the NFL season came after days of sharp rebukes by Trump during speeches and on Twitter.

In all, 75.9 percent of those surveyed said they did not believe the anthem itself is racist; 11.4 percent answered yes; 12.7 percent said they did not know.

In regard to Trump, 49.1 percent of those surveyed said they approved of his job performance, while 45.3 percent disapproved. The question was again heavily split along racial lines, with 65.7 percent of white voters polled saying they approved. Alternatively, 74.5 percent of black voters polled said they did not approve.

SUNBURY-ON-THAMES, England — The New Orleans Saints plan to meet in the coming days to determine a more unified plan for a peaceful protest before their game against the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Running back Mark Ingram said the team planned to meet before Saturday to discuss options that will show unity among the players who sat during the national anthem to protest racial injustice last Sunday and those who stood as usual.

“I’m going to talk to my teammates, and we’re going to come up with something that kind of unifies everybody and we’ll see,” Ingram said.

Racial injustice for someone who gets paid in a year what I will never make in my lifetime.

Mental.

“Registered” voters means these aren’t all football fans. I guarantee you if they closed the sample to NFL fans only it’d be much higher.

There is only one plan that is acceptable. Stand at attention with your right hand over your heart.

Bree’s and Payton are both chicken shits who are afraid of their players. That is receivers will “drop,” “miss” balls, that players will slack on the job and throw games. The players have already jumped the shark and it’s too late. Personally, no matter with these players do, I will not watch another NFL game.

Fined or fired. And not just the players - coaches and owners as well.

“That is receivers will “drop,” “miss” balls, that players will slack on the job and throw games.”

That would be a really good thing! Then the fans would really get pi$$ed off and stop going to games or watching them on TV. They would be nothing more than a bunch of Black Union Members “picketing their businesses.”

My first thought too...this is the second poll like this, with these kinds of results - I guess that’s what they default to.

...but as you say, try adjusting for just football fans, then go further adjust for football fans who spend real money (tickets, jerseys, etc.), and then adjust for revenue (i.e., give more weight to the big spenders, since they would have the biggest impact).

By the time they’re done, they would find that some 98% of the dollar value of their fan base are whites, and probably 80% of them don’t want to be politically lectured at by rich, spoiled, players about how bad the cops are.

Obviously they never bothered to do that type of ‘know your customer’ poll, but rather they listened to their metrosexual ‘diversity advisers’ who told them to never anger those big, bad, black guys...and now they are paying the price, BIG TIME.
