Her testimony is that she knew she had the power to forgive and she could use it however she chose. She saw her power to forgive as power over those who victimized her.
She also says that after 50 years, when she finally chose to forgive her tormentors, her tormentors and the past no longer had any power over her.
Her "Declaration of Amnesty" for Nazis declares forgiveness but not forgetfulness. Not holding on to what happened in bitterness but proclaiming the truth of what happened to counter denials of what happened and for sober consideration of the truth of what happened.
Another thing she did was not deny her anger and feelings toward her tormentor Dr. Mengele, "the Angel of Death". False forgiveness is trying to pretend it didn't happen so you can forgive who wronged you. True forgiveness allows you the time to feel your anger and hurt and by God's grace grieve your loss to closure, forgive, and move on with life.
A truly wonderful testimony.
pretty awesome , I watched the entire thing
This showed up in my facebook newsfeed earlier today. Quite a story. Difficult to believe people could be so cruel. Bless this woman and her ability to forgive.
