On Monday, former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison for having lewd exchanges with a 15-year-old girl on Skype and Snapchat.
*snip*
This may sound odd, but I admire Anthony Weiner for what he did on Monday. He stood tearfully before the judge and acknowledged several compatible truths: that he was responsible for his action, that he is accepting the consequences, and that he needs help...

Exhibit number one million that the Times is a dysfunctional, repulsive mess of a paper.
Sally loves Weiner!
To be honest, I’m still in shock that he got even one day for this.
It was only about what 5-7 years late?
Could be wrong, but I think the real reason she admires Wiener is that he played a convincing beard for his terrorist fake wife long enough for her to get in deep with the Clinton Crime Family.
The pedophile agenda has to take a stand and get a toehold in the public somewhere, the Slimes is a good place to begin.
Ooh, maybe i can sound hip..
That one is on him.
They’re not buying this one at DU either.
He’ll be popular in jail too
Weiner will be showing pictures of his manhood to Brutus before his first night in prison is over.....
He did stand and take his lumps, not something we’ll ever see from Hillary.
The NYT loves him b/c they are reminded of the man they futilely tried to turn Clarence Thomas into. All these attacks while they were really HOPING that Thomas was really the kind of loathsome creep who would join them at their bath houses one day.
Maybe “Sally” used to be Salvatore and she/he is jealous of Weiner’s johnson. Just saying...
...and not in a way that he’ll like.
Remember James McDougal...part of Whitewater. The Clinton crime syndicate had more control over him when he was incarcerated...possibly even took the opportunity to kill him while incarcerated. I’m sure Weiner remembers.
> He did stand and take his lumps... <
True, but it’s not like he turned himself in, or anything like that.
It is quite common for a person convicted of a crime to express remorse, sometimes it is sincere, sometimes it is in hopes of making things easier for himself. Carlos Danger is at all noble or unusual in what
Just his or everybody's?
I am familiar with the author, and unfortunately this piece gives a very misleading impression of her. I believe that she is praising Weiner’s assumption of responsibility (even if it is insincere) rather than overlooking his crimes.
If you look at her oeuvre, you will see that she is a very strong advocate for the concept of individual responsibility, a cause that should be near and dear to Freepers. In fact, if you view this article on the AEI website (look for her work under scholars), the article immediately below it is a brief of amici curiae arguing that a defendant should not avoid criminal responsibility by claiming that addiction is a “brain disease”. Dr. Satel has argued this point many times over the years. While not as conservative as I am (or most of you are), she is a strong anti-nanny-state, pro-individual-responsibility advocate with a keen and incisive brilliant Berean mind.
Well, at least part of that is true.
I agree.
He claimed he had a “disease.” That is the exact opposite of accepting responsibility.
