John Elway channeled millions of current and former fans Tuesday night, when he released a statement addressing the NFL protests over the weekend. The Hall of Famer and Broncos executive says, America is the greatest country in the world, and that people should stand for the anthem.
Elway wrote:
Im one that believes in standing for the national anthem, and Ive always believed that. I believe that this is the greatest country in the world. We are very fortunate to live here, but its obviously not perfect. There are a lot of things that need to be corrected, and we will continue to work on those things. Im one that really believes in standing for the flag. I understand the players and the way they felt from the comments that were made earlier in the week. They felt they had to go down and kneel and thats up to them. Hopefully as we go forward we can start concentrating on football a little bit more. Take the politics out of football. But I think that last week was a good show of unity by the NFL and hopefully this week we can move forward.
One can hope, though, this hope may prove too optimistic.
One person not enthralled by Elways remarkably good take, was Pro Football Talks Mike Florio. Florio charged Elway with hypocrisy for claiming to want the politics out of football. While also lobbying for Supreme Court justices on Broncos stationary.

Yeah from the one who STABBED Tim Tebow in the BACK! FUCK YOU Elway!
Too late.
Too late, dead league walking.
Pity Tebow never filed a civil rights suit against the NFL. I’ll bet discovery would have been very enlightening.
Get politics out of football??
What we have learned this past week is that the NFL has grafted itself onto the revolving-door, political-media-insider-crony deep state.
the NFL is at a crossroads. Clean house and loose a lot of money, or try and muddle through, and still loose a lot of money.
Yep
If he wants politics out of football he should run for the senate.
Sometimes it is better to Shut Up, just showed how deep it goes

The second part of Elway’s statement there directly contradicts the first part. In other words, the statement is meaningless, self-protecting mush.
Go stand in line with the other cowards, Mr. Elway.
The left will never be sated until the NFL is a dumpster fire.
YEah, this week everybody is going to boycott just to drive the ratings down. Course, ESPN will probably attempt to spin it as the POC population refusing to watch in protest of PTrump’s tweet.
I lived in Colorado Springs from 1980 to 2000
Elway was one of the few Broncos who was no the straight and narrow...
He lived in a middle class neighborhood in a suburb of Denver
I think it was Lakewood Ranch...
we were building a school near by and he would drive by..one day he stopped and signed autographs for the people there..I missed out
He was an OK guy..
Sorry too late
They have absolutely dominated national sports for the last decade or more, they have nowhere to go but down. Unfortunately everything that rises must eventually fall.
TOO LATE! As they say, OVA!
Guess he’s trying to get the mega-car dealer, who sponsored the Broncos & dumped them Sunday, to come back. Lotsa luck, John.
If he wants politics out of football he should run for the senate.

Elway would be a RINO the second he was sworn in.
Isn’t he one of the ones who started tgis by being an open bigot towards Christians?
