The first of McCain's three Colorado stops Friday began with introductions by two former Broncos. John Lynch and John Elway warmed up the crowd to ear-splitting applause. Elway said McCain knows how to show "leadership and sacrifice for the good of the team." Turning to the candidate, he said "It's the fourth quarter, and some have counted you out. But I know a thing or two about comebacks." Elway urged everyone to vote. "We need to put someone in the White House who puts country first." Early in the event, protesters disrupted McCain's speech. A small group was chanting and...

Thursday afternoon, I received an email from the McCain campaign to let everyone know that Senator McCain was holding a rally in Denver on Friday. I got up very early and was able to get a good spot. I took quite a few photos, however the backlighting goofed up the focus on a lot of them. Here are some of the best. Former Republican Gov. Bill Owens was there. He asked people to knock on doors, call their neighbors and put up yard signs. Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, and former Broncos safety John Lynch were there along with...

(DENVER) – Former Broncos quarterback and Colorado icon John Elway will appear with John McCain this morning at a rally here, but there are signs that the GOP does not believe McCain has a strong chance in the state. The Republican Party cut almost half of their television advertising for McCain in Denver, according to a story by the Associated Press. Polls show a solid but not huge lead for Barack Obama here, a state that President Bush carried twice. In addition to a morning rally here, McCain has stops in Colorado Springs and Durango.

Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway will always be remembered by Coloradoans as the orchestrator of “The Drive” — a 98-yard touchdown march in the closing moments of the 1987 American Football Conference Championship game. Whether the Hall-of-Famer and statewide sports hero has the drive to score a big win for Colorado Republicans in 2008 is another matter, and it’s the subject of growing speculation now that Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) is not running. Elway’s office at the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League said yesterday that Elway “has no intentions of running,” and observers say a 2008 Senate...

Elway, Sanders, Eller, Brown to be inducted in Pro Football Hall of Fame Sunday, August 08, 2004 By BARRY WILNER The Associated Press CANTON, Ohio (AP) — John Elway fearlessly stared down opponents and the clock in the final minutes of games. Yet the prospect of election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame made him sweat. Barry Sanders calmly slinked his way around and through tacklers nearly twice his size. But the possibility of being chosen for the Canton shrine got Sanders all nervous. They need not have worried as both the two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback of the...
