Uber is having a lot of trouble in Socialist Europe. They are already banned in France, Belgium and Spain so this is just the latest. Having roadblocks to competition doesn't mean taxi service in these countries runs smoothly. I live in Spain and have to put up with multiple taxi strikes as the drivers look for more money and better working conditions. So putting competitors out of business does not happiness bring.

Uber lost all its credibility with me when they cut a deal with the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) to operate in NYC -- then promptly signed on with the TLC in a legal challenge to keep Lyft out of New York.

The people who run these companies are all full of sh!t. They're all about innovation, freedom and liberty until THEY cut their own deal, then they turn into overbearing "crony capitalists" just like the rest of them.

Did the muslim cabbie union and the muslim brotherhood mayor strike a deal?

Über makes traveling in cities like San Francisco tolerable.

I was hoping to use them in Paris but they are banned in France? Damn, that is terrible.

Their service is great and so far, no problems.

I’ve always suspected that Uber and Lyft are some failed Leftist social engineering experiment to get people to give up their cars. I suspect Uber and Lyft aren’t actually supposed to make money but to train people to call for a car when they need it, obviously thought up by people in huge cities who never really use cars anyway. Didn’t work out so well for them in that the only people who use those services are the same ones who already use taxis.

The same moslem pig who banned Uber in London recently observed that "terrorism is the price one pays for living in a big city".

But that pig has failed to explain why Tokyo,a city big enough to make London,Paris and New York look like country villages by comparison, has *never* had a moslem terror attack.

Sucks though. Uber costs about 25% of the cost of taxis in Croatia (not 25% less, 25% of the cost, as in $5 for Uber, $20 for a taxi).

In London I took one, it was fine and reasonably priced, but all the driver did was complain about Uber. I guess he got his wish...

I don’t know if they still require it but years ago it took years for a Londoner to get a taxi license. They had to know every church, bar, alley, you name it in London. They had to name to an examiner every turn to take for a 3 mile trip from point A to point B. I suspect that is no longer required with navigation systems assuring the honest route.

I think this sucks
Used uber in July in Paris and London and it was fantastic
Reliable ! Fast! Cheap! No cash required - no foreign currency - no tipping
Nice cars, great drivers

I don’t know why anyone would choose Uber in London.. Requirements to be a cab driver in London are insane... they literally pretty much have to know london streets inside and out to get licensed...

UBER just ignores the law, part of why they have all the issues they have with sexual harassment, because their culture is EFF the law, no matter what it is, we do what we want.

Where I live the taxis are smelly, expensive, and highly unreliable.

On the other hand I can push a button on my phone and a typically friendly person will show up in a clean car within 3-5 minutes to take me to the airport or downtown for a third of the price of a taxi

Every place that has tried to hamstring Uber has done so under pressure from the cab companies who don’t seem to understand their model is outdated.

This is from today's Daily Mail article and conflicts with the above claim (note the inclusion of Socialist America! LOL):

Since 2003, London charges a daily fee for vehicles to enter what they deem The Congestion Charge Zone. According to Wikipedia: “The standard charge is £11.50 for each day, for each non-exempt vehicle that travels within the zone.”
Perhaps the city hasn’t been able to get the amount of money they desire from this zone fee since Uber’s been in the picture. More people will have to use public transport, or their own vehicles to enter this zone. Being forced to use their own vehicles will raise the City’s coffers no doubt. I also wonder how much of an impact Uber has had on the regular London cabbie’s earnings. If London is so worried about the safety and security of their people, they should stop the influx of radical muzzies instead of banning a taxi service.
