ANALYSIS: Trump launches rhetorical rockets at United Nations
ABC "News" ^ | September 19, 2017 | by Rick Klein

Making American great again, in the view of the man who made that phrase a campaign slogan, means making the world understand that America is redefining the way it is seeking out that greatness.

That means absorbing the boasts, name-calling, and contradictions embedded in President Trump’s first address to the United Nations.

In a speech aimed at his own base as much as anything else, Trump delivered harsh warnings as well as complaints aimed at Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and Islamic terrorists.

What the United Nations has not been about is such explicit tough-guy talk, reminiscent of Trump campaign rallies but not of previous presidents’ foreign-policy addresses.

Trump also highlighted some of the contradictions that have defined his time in the public arena. He has sought to look inward on trade, immigration, and accepting refugees, yet spoke of the need for “diverse nations” to pursue “shared goal, interests, and values.”

He said the U.S. would not seek to impose “our way of life” on other nations, but said minutes later that the “problem in Venezuela” is that “socialism has been faithfully implemented.”

He has long decried foreign-policy interventionism, under Democratic and Republican presidents, but ticked off enough rogue nations to double the size of President George W. Bush famous three-member “Axis of Evil.”

Trump is calling this a type of “realism.” But his short time in public life has been marked by attempts to make his own realities. Now, the president is gambling the safety of the nation on the prospect that his play is the right one.

ABC remains the voice of socialism, failure, Communism,
Islamic terror, and the DNC.

Ha haaa!!! I hope they're having mass aneurisms over at abcsnooze.com.

They sat idly by (if by "idly by" I mean "cheered wildly") while serial groper, Bill Clinton and pretend-president Baraq Soetoro helped NorKo and Iran nuke up and only now are their lacy panties are all wadded up over it.

Bunch of jerks. Shut up, abcsnooze.com. President Trump's got this.

First President since Reagan to proudly proclaim his American identity and put our interests above all others. What ABC sees as conflicts I see as pointing out the cold hard truth of reality to those who refuse to see it.

Well done.

It’s OK to hear their take on this speech. I expected much worse from ABC.

They make it sound like Romney liked it, and if Romney had dissed it, I’m sure they would have been all over that.

A very good day.

But?

Is he not allowed to say that socialism is poison to the human condition? What’s that got do to with imposing “our way of life” on anyone?

This is "analysis"? There is nothing contradictory in those two statements. We have not sought to impose anything on Venezuela, and all Trump did was point out what is so blindingly obvious that even a media blackout can't hide it. Socialism is The God That Failed. This is only controversial to True Believers and fools, but there I repeat myself.

Good point.

I never understand how liberals and our media look at socialism and communism, compared to capitalism.

For example, our media report how Cuba has suffered due to long standing trade restrictions with Cuba. They still drive 1950s era cars and all that. The blame is placed on us, for having trade restrictions with that country.

My unanswered question is: If communism/socialism are such great systems, such superior systems, why would a communist regime such as Cuba, depend on an “evil” capitalistic country such as America to prosper??? If communism is superior, why the need for communism to consort with allegedly evil capitalism to provide a socialism utopia??

President Donald Trump:
"The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented but that socialism has been faithfully implemented. (long pause) From the Soviet Union to Cuba to Venuzela, wherever socialism or communism has been adopted it has delivered anguish and devastation and failure."

ah, so Rick Klein’s worldview is for Americans to be meek, mild little rabbits. Maybe he’d be more comfortable in China, where public speech of government officials is approved by committee, preferably one he’s on?

It’s not ‘imposing’ our way of life on others to comment that Venezuela’s socialist experiment turned into disaster, just like every other socialist experiment has. Without oil income, Venezuela would have failed much faster and harder.
