They’re 50 years too late. 200 years is the correct time span.
For the Bison-Tennial.

Didn’t STALIN order the execution of several soviet soldiers who shot a wisent bison there in WWII?

Is this the animal that 2000 years ago caused a revolt against ROME when the Roman official demanded taxes could be paid in the form of ox hides, and he specified the LARGER ox hides?

According to Polish authorities, the animal was probably a bull which had been running around the Ujście Warty National Park on the German-Polish border for some time before wandering into the Bundesrepublik.

Migrant bison shouldda carried a koran and prayer rug. Then the Krauts wouldda welcomed him.

Really? They want them? We have so many here in Arizona that we are hiring shooters. I am sure arrangements can be made and these same “environmentalists” will pay the bill to have them sent to Germany. Heck, every other species is winding up in Germany.

[[“After more than 250 years a wild bison had been spotted again in Germany and all the authorities could think to do is shoot it.”]]

Well duh! Of course they shot it- that way they can keep the buffalo on the endangered list-

Expect a headline along the lines of

“Tasmanian tiger spotted- then promptly shot by authorities” to keep the tigers on the extinct list- Can’t risk losing the list ya know

I generally don’t have much use for the WWF but I agree with them here. Why not just inform the public of the presence of the bison and tell people to stay clear of it? It is only a danger if you crowd it. It’s not like a bison will stalk people.

“The bison are not known to be dangerous”

Certainly not. After all, a large European Bison bull is about the size of a well-grown Chihuahua. It’s not a huge wild animal with hooves and horns.

Bison are not cattle. Never have been, never will be. If they can’t fence it into an adequate open range then you might as well be letting elephants and rhinos loose across the German countryside.

The bison are not known to be dangerous, Brandenburg's Environment Minister Jörg Vogelsänger told Der Tagesspiegel. If they were, then “half of Poland, where the animal is a national symbol, would have to be declared a danger zone,” as they roam freely there, he said.

They are super rare because they haven't been spotted in Germany in over 250 years. Yet they are perfectly safe because they're running around all over Poland and they don't kill people. So plenty in Poland, not many in Germany. In other words they aren't actually rare or endangered.

Having a hard time getting fired up about this one.
