Washington (CNN)US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.
The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.
Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is not conclusive.

He's a New York real estate developer with an international portfolio. They underestimate him at their own peril. You would not want to be anywhere near some of the people he's dealt with.
I remember it being reported at the time President Trump said he’d been wiretapped, that an office in Trump Tower, situated just three floors below his residence, had been wiretapped to listen in on a Russian organized crime ring that leased the space. That supposedly occurred between 2011-2013. The CNN video also said that Manafort has his residence in Trump Tower, and that the initial wiretapping of Manafort began in 2014, but was dropped for lack of evidence. Then they obtained a second FISA warrant to surveil Manafort, but they have no idea when they occurred. I hope we’ll one day be able to see exactly what bogus evidence the Obama Administration provided in order to get those warrants.

You raise a good point and allude to something sadly ironic about all this. The POTUS and the Sec of State both had unlimited access to Russia and any other country’s information leading into the campaign. This is all protected by Executive Privilege. Cannot be investigated. Even after she resigned as Sec of State she maintained her clearance and access, not to mention her communications were in her sole custody. All that, yet somehow the wildest of accusations on the slimmest of evidence is enough for the entire establishment to come down like a ton of bricks.
I know your point was different, and well taken. The number of scandals runs so high that they seem to count on making everyone too dizzy to investigate. The nexus between the CF and the campaign, pay to play, fundraising for private donations while in high office, the use of high office to spy on opposition, abuse of power are just some of scores of alleged crimes for which there is solid evidence to justify investigation. Yet the country is on a wild goose chase.
I’m wagering that Meuller doesn’t come with a single indictment related to the primary investigation. He’ll get someone for lying, or he’ll have dug up an old financial crime from one of Trump’s cronies. But on the main allegation a) there is probably no crime to charge and b) no evidence even if there were a crime to charge.
Also above the headline also in red it says Manfort is on the brink of being indicted. This completely changes the impression of the story to the CNN spin. Drudge has been turned for awhile now.

Well then Manaforte is doomed. They will have to manufacture evidence if it doesn’t exist to justify their actions.

Mueller has been begging to be fired for months.
This is what’s going on: Bush and Romney, plus the Clinton Crime Family, decided long ago that Trump had to go, to be removed. But to impeach him and convict him with no cover story was a bridge too far for Ryan and his caucus.
Ryan needs 25 Republican members to indict (I presume all 193 Democrats are “yes” votes). But with elections every two years, he has to give his members cover to vote that way.
The plan was “RussiaRussiaRussia”. When there was nothing there, the plan was to provoke Trump to fire Mueller. Lately, it’s been “Charlottesville” (whatever that even means).
But they have to move now. In less that two months, we’ll be inside one year from the next House election. Any GOP Member who votes to impeach Trump will go home after the next election unless they can concoct a story about why impeachment was necessary.
So, the story will be that Manafort, with Trump’s approval, got the Russians to do something bad.
As soon as Mueller releases whatever he has, or has made up, Ryan will be everywhere reading the speech he wrote six months ago, “It is with a heavy heart that I have concluded...”
