The Real Unknown of Climate Change: Our Behavior
New York Times ^ | September 18, 2017 | by Justin Gillis

Posted on 09/18/2017 8:11:47 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

As Hurricane Harvey bore down on the Texas coast, few people in that state seemed to understand the nature of the looming danger.

Experts pleaded with the public ahead of the storm that “the most dangerous aspect of this hurricane may be days of rainfall and associated flooding.”

Now we know how events in Texas turned out.

Dr. Shepherd and his colleagues have spent their careers issuing a larger warning, one that much of the public still chooses to ignore. I speak, of course, about the risks of climate change.

Because of atmospheric emissions from human activity, the ocean waters from which Harvey drew its final burst of strength were much warmer than they ought to have been, most likely contributing to the intensity of the deluge. If the forecasts from our scientists are anywhere close to right, we have seen nothing yet.

In their estimation, the most savage heat waves that we experience today will likely become routine in a matter of decades. The coastal inundation that has already begun will grow worse and worse, forcing millions of people to flee. The immense wave of refugees that we already see moving across continents may be just the beginning.

Scientists urged decades ago that we buy ourselves some insurance by cutting emissions. We yawned. Even today, when millions of people have awakened to the danger, tens of millions have not. So the political demand for change is still too weak to overcome the entrenched interests that want to block it.

And yet most of us have still not bestirred ourselves to care, much less to march in the streets demanding change.

Is this failure to act the legacy our generation wants to leave for the generations yet to come?

Let us repeat at them: “if you use gasoline-powered vehicles, directly or by proxy, you do NOT believe climate change is a serious matter.”

(Methinks I’ve done more to prevent global warming than most who express concern about it. Drove an electric car for 2 years, now work from home.)

Goebbels Warming

The CO2 theory is nothing but hot air.

The source of all heat on earthy is the Sun.

Once they figure out how to tax that, they will leave CO2 alone.

Every last one of us could have been driving electric cars in Texas, and Harvey would have still come ashore, dumping 40”- 52” in 48 hours. It couldn’t move because it was trapped between Hi pressure areas. Could government have changed that, you assclowns?

The pathetic Lefties at the NYT actually think man can alter the universe. How ridiculously arrogant can a species be!

Yo, Dr. Shepherd, New York Slimes, Experts, how come you never say anything about the crap that is dumped into our skies every day? That atomized aluminum oxide mistakenly referredt to as chemtrails.

Oh. Before you answer, let me first point out that contrails dissipate, they don't spread as do chemtrails.

Ok, I admit it. Globull warming is my fault. If only I hadn’t stood in front of an open refrigerator back in the summer of 1980 when it was 117 degrees outside, we wouldn’t have had Harvey and Irma.

we had a terse discussion about “climate change” last weekend in our gym as irma was bearing down on Florida- 5 loons against me...

they went on and on and on and on so I simply asked why do people who believe mankind is the primary cause of climate change continue to pro-create?? and why haven’t they all jumped off a bridge?? because all they are doing arguing for climate change is producing more- wait of it- climate change!!!

“As Hurricane Harvey bore down on the Texas coast, few people in that state seemed to understand the nature of the looming danger.”

Don’t insult us, you New York, brain-addled clods. We all knew it was going to flood. We actually have experience with this. There’s not much you can really do in a flood.

If the first sentence insults me, I obviously don’t read the rest, but I assume it’s more BS about manmade global warming. The more interesting thing is the title. I thought there was ZERO question that we were the cause, NYT scum.

I bet with enough research, you can find articles from the NYT of the 30s not only praising Hitler (we’ve seen those) but also Goebbels. He’s their god, whether they know it or not.

Actually, climate change is real. Global warming is a lie. What liberals are really pushing is the myth that climate should be static throughout history. Static Climate doesn’t exist and never has.

It was the 4 day stall SE of San Antonio that caused the rain in Houston, not the warm water.

Come on!!!!! You honestly believe the denier stuff? I mean, if we’d robbed you of..... I mean properly taxed the filthy profits....ummm the profits of the gas industry more for the last 20 years to the tune of about $20 trillion, to give to poor despots like Kim Jong Il, maybe, just maybe, we could have (and there are no guarantees, but our models we pulled out of our tails..... ummmm.... our scientific models claim we’re right) possibly cut it down to 39.95”-51.95”. Seriously. If we could tax you down to stone-age level then we could cut it down to 39.90”-51.90”.

Since Global Warming Theorists are brilliant just brilliant maybe they can help me out with this problem. Mars has two polar icecaps similar to Earth. What they don’t have is people, cars, coal burning energy plants etc. What then causes the Martian ice caps to change in shape like they melt each year?
