... and when every business and every individual that doesn’t have one, goes looking for a generator all at once as in the aftermath of a big storm, what happens?

What happens when your Tesla can’t find a lace to plug in?

The same thing that happens when gas stations can't pump gas due to power failure. You're out of fuel and can't get any more.

This takes you and me right back to my original reply on this thread, so you're arguing in circles, here. I don't debate that EV's are impractical for certain uses and have said as much here, but unable to get fuel is out of fuel, whether that fuel is gasoline, diesel, propane, compressed natural gas, diesel or electricity.

Ok, then what’s your point?

My point is that hurricane evacuation is a bad place to demonstrate your dislike of electric vehicles, because electricity being out meant that gasoline was unavailable, and electricity being out meant generators were in very high demand, meaning that very few gas stations got them.

Hmmm, seems to me that the hurricane evacuation is a bad place to demonstrate yout dislike for gas powered vehicles. It’s a illogical position that can’t be rationally defended. Thinking you’re just a lurker sitting in your moms basement in your bathrobe and fuzzy bunny slippers that lays in the weeds looking for an opportunity to be a contrarian. So, you stick with your hypothetical EV and I’ll stick with my gas burner. I’m betting you don’t even own a car, mom probably drives you around using - her own gas, lol!

You made an awkward claim and I pointed out the weakness of it in my original reply. The rest of the round and round was on you. I don’t think electric vehicles are superior to gasoline vehicles in every way or even a majority of ways, but they do work well for short runs in an urban commuter environment. As far as cartoonish mental stereotypes, since you’ve shared yours of me, I feel obliged to share mine of you: a cranky old crab who loves to get his crank on about anything he doesn’t remember from fifty years ago, who hates music any later than 1970 and even some before then if it was from them dirty hippies.

Lol! Actually, your right on some of your stereotyping; I am indeed old and sometimes cranky. But actually my mind is still good, hopefully it will remain so. And, you're kinda right about my choice of music, but about one decade off. I have oldie Rock and Roll programmed on my Sirius/XM In my Silverado 6.2L 4X4 crew Cab. If you ever get stuck give me a shout and I'll come pull you out. 😊

Not necessary, I have an AWD Subaru turbo and my dad’s old Ranger 4x4 that he left me. You were dead wrong on yours, I’ve had an S-Corp for twenty years and have worked my @ off, too bad about the crash because it nailed me with customer bankruptcies. I’m just now getting back to the point with business through that S-Corp that I don’t need a “day job” anymore. It’s been a long ten years.

Well, I might have guessed that you drive a Subaru (btw all Subaru's are AWD). Not saying it's a bad choice just creates another stereotype of you, that's all. Sorry about your dad, know how that is as both my parents passed about twenty five years ago. I feel your pain about the crash as my 401K dropped like a rock and it took several years to regain to where I was. Back above water now though. Little smarter this time around though and not so heavily in stocks. Good for you on not needing a day job. I've been blessed and am doing ok. Heck, I've got time to diddle around in this forum with you! Hang in there 🤗

Around here, lesbians like Silverado 4x4 trucks, too so don’t get too smug about my owning a Subaru, lol. Great cars, actually. Built in Indiana. Fast as heck, excellent AWD, but you’re wrong about all Subarus being AWD. Their sporty two seater BRZ is RWD.

Too funny about Silverados! Hmm, I do like women. Btw, I’m in Texas, near DFW. Where abouts are you? Back to Subaru’s; one of my adult daughters (have three) was in the market for a new car a few months back and considered a Subaru and I asked about two wheel drive and was informed that all Subaru’s are AWD. But, guess what did he know? Anyway, my daughter opted for a Mazda CX-5, really likes it.

I’m in NC not far from the Virginia border, within sight of the Blue Ridge Mountains. North of Greensboro and Winston-Salem. All Subarus were AWD prior to that sporty two seater, and it should have been AWD too, in my opinion. But, price point I guess. They don’t make a vehicle that’s really equivalent of the CX-5 so if she needed minivan-like space and flexibility that was a good choice, the Subaru Tribeca is close but larger and an older design.

Beautiful country where you’re at for sure. I did some comparative research for my daughter on cars (deservedly or not, I’m considered the car guy in my fam) in the price and catagory she was interested in. She narrowed her choices down to the Subaru, Hyundai, and Mazda. Being she’s young, bling-bling is important to her and the Subaru didn’t push her buttons. But, the CX-5 is a good car. So, her choice was ok and it fits her life style.

There’s a replacement coming for that Subaru Tribeca that will be very cool but it will be likely a year before it turns up in the US. I’m a strong believer in their horizontally opposed flat four and flat six engines, but the US brand managers and product people have their heads up their you know where since about 2008, they’re making a few bad calls like deemphasizing the high performance turbos. They seem to want to be just another company that makes SUV’s and car-based CUV’s. That’s not what made them what they are, and that’s not what their Japanese parent company is, say what you will but Subarus have never been dull and predicable before recent model years.

The only experience I have with horizontally opposed engines is with the old VW flats. They were tough engines but were high maintainence. Actually, all engines were high maintenance back in the day as compared to today’s drive 100K Miles trouble free engines. Anyway, aside from the space advantage I’m not sure the boxer engine is much of a selling point with today’s younger buyers. It’s my observation that most are only vaguely aware there’s an engine in the car at all. Sorta like bacon comes from a pig. Forget about explaining the difference between a regular transmission and a CVT, lol! It’s all about the digital options, wifi. Blue tooth and so on. But, while the digital do-dad’s are not the most important aspect for me when buying, I do find them useful. Especially like the wifi hotspot in my Silverado and use it all the time.

They’re tough, over engineered engines that are pretty low maintenance unless you get the turbo. The boost on the turbo is well below the potential of the block, but turbos bring complexity and complexity means high maintenance. Horizontally opposed means lower center of gravity, I keep hoping they’ll take their excellent AWD and engines with a low center of gravity and come out with a solid, reliable and economical alternative to a Jeep Wrangler, convertible top, removable doors and all. I’d buy one of those. Would buy a Jeep but hear alarming things about reliability, warranty work, recalls and general transmission woes, that would be Chrysler’s doing. They always did have trouble with transmissions, even back when they were run by engineers. Excellent engines, transmissions for crap, starters that sounded like they were chewing on a chipmunk.
