Internal Combustion: If You Can’t Beat ’Em… Ban ’Em!
american spectator ^ | Eric Peters

Posted on 09/14/2017 6:12:05 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

Since they can’t sell electric cars — not enough of them, anyhow — and not without subsidies so huge they amount to outright bribes — the solution appears to be to outlaw all cars except electric cars.

This is no joke.

There are IC engine No Go Zones in Germany and France. The Brits have just decreed a ban on the sale of internal combustion-engined vehicles period, beginning in 2040.

This sounds like a long time from now but isn’t — because car companies begin designing cars about ten years before they see the light of production and so the fatwa means the car companies are on notice that the current generation of cars they are selling is either the last or the second-to-last generation of cars they will be selling… at least insofar as they are powered by internal combustion.

And so, they won’t be wasting resources to design and build the next generation.

It’s not just Britain, either.

If it were, the madness could be contained. Instead, the madness metastasizes.

India — well, the government of India — wants all IC engined cars off the road — or retrofitted with electric drivetrains — by 2030, which is only about ten years away and so just over the horizon as far as product planning cycles go.

And now the commissars in China have announced they are all in… or out — depending on your point of view. The world’s largest market for cars and the world’s largest manufacturer of cars.

Same 2030 extinction-by-decree date.

That is comment worthy.

Batteries seem unstainable at the moment.

Legislate necessary, sustainable, common sense battery performance now.

Well, if you thought the Hurricane Irma/Florida evacuation looked like a mess, image what it would look like if all autos were electric. I think the old Army description “cluster fu€k would be a good fit....

Such decrees will pretty much end private ownership of cars except for the oligarchs. It will not put everyone into electric cars. The government is not going to subsidize cars for everyone and will use the expense of electric cars to force everyone into public transportation which will make it much easier to go the next step- requiring registering of one’s destination and length of stay and then on to requiring government permission to travel.

Has the Obamahole bought a compact electric car as he promised he’d do after he left the white hut?

It will be fun to watch them fail yet again.

Just like Germany’s brilliant plan in setting an emissions goal for 2020 they already admit they won’t come anywhere near. But hey, they signed the Paris Accord so it’s all good!

Mexican Dreamers got nothing on Euro-Dreamers.

Can’t use AC, must save ‘lectricity for cars.

And only Iran and Nor’Korea can use nuclear power plants.

About the same as gasoline powered cars with all the gas stations out, lol?

There isn’t enough electricity for this progressive / marxist wet dream.

Don’t worry, the oligarchs will still have theirs.

Doesn’t seem like it was long ago that we were worried about out old and failing power grid. I guess the answer to fixing it was to shut down coal fired plants. Now we electricity to spare. Now sure how that works.

Live in Fla. and had to prep for the recent storm. part of that was purchase of a couple of gas cans for fuel for my generators. Anyone that has purchased one of these EPA compliant gas cans knows what I’m talking about. What a pain. These crappy over-engineered pizza chits are gonna get someone killed. gotta be the obama admin giving the finger to fossil fuel users.....gotta be.

Do the leftists really think "electric" is benign? One wind turbine requires several miles of copper (a scarce resource). Have they ever seen a copper mine? Do they realize all the pollution and toxins and heavy metals involved in the smelting process? And all the slag and tailings? Copper mining is far more disruptive than an oil well or even a 1000 mile pipeline. Copper mines are huge pits, deep scars on "Mother Gaia".

Just the copper aspect alone is daunting. But then take in all the other complexity of the supply chain: inverters, power lines, transformers, etc. etc. This whole system is very fragile, and as the people of Florida and Houston will attest, subject to massive failures leaving millions and millions in the dark. Most counties in Florida are still experiencing massive power outages.

The simplicity and reliability of the internal combustion engine is hard to beat. America is not meant for electric vehicles. The distances we travel are way to far. And Americans don't have time to wait for a one hour "fill up" at a charging station. Just say no to electric cars.

I’d like to know the content of lithium and other components in the batteries, and a projection of how many such batteries will have to be manufactured in order to replace all IC engines in the future. I would also like to see an estimate of the amount of energy that will be required to manufacture this number of batteries, and the environmental costs of disposing of them (I read an article estimating that the environmental costs of producing batteries for an electric car are equivalent to driving an IC car for 8 years). Also, how often do the batteries have to be replaced, and what is the environmental cost of this?
