Critics of Russia-funded news outlets are cheering Justice Department moves toward forcing the organizations to label themselves propaganda and publicly disclose their funding and editorial processes, insisting this does not threaten press freedom.

News outlets, including foreign-owned ones, and their employees generally are exempt from making public filings under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, a law applied regularly to lobbyists and foreign tourism boards.

The DOJ is run by Sessions. What a fraud! If they do this they should definitely include all the letter networks and the large newspapersm

This approach will be turned on conservative media and blogs while the propaganda US media continues its anti-American daily assaults IMO.

Good for the DOJ:

Of course, the likes of Sputnik are Russian State Media;

That’s the big difference from the usual lame excuses that come out, “what about our media?”.

Hey, if I don’t like CNN, Fox, NBC, NYT, Wapo, I can go to OANN, the Daily Caller and so on.

This is not the same situation as those quoting Russian and Iranian media for the most part, they quote Sputnik, they quote RT. The proper comparison here would be the Voice of America or Radio Free Europe.

Yeah, sure. It’s talking about State Media which is what Sputnik is, the only comparison we have is if someone cracked down on government news outlets like the Voice of America which has in fact, been done in the past.

Good for the DOJ; who needs the obscene Russian Government sponsored lies people routinely quote.

What sane patriotic American wouldn't be critical of the Russian propaganda media? They make it sound like it's some fringe group of Americans.

I hope they haven't succeeded to the point where we have THAT many easily manipulated idiots in our country.

The government doesn’t run the letter networks. It shouldn’t be “running” foreign media either. But if you’re going to make propaganda outlets admit their real purpose, then it should include the propaganda outlets here in the US.

The left-wing-operated media here in the US should also be labeled as such, or at least be made to admit their sympathies lie with the democrat party. Kind of like how it’s done with people who push various stocks via television and print, where they are made to reveal specific information about themselves and their personal business dealings.

Apparently Trump refuses to control Sessions and the DOJ.

BTW CNN makes money by broadcasting in tyranical countries all around the world. And of course Comcast (MSNBC) and Disney (ABC) are global companies. Hey Jeff Sessionss, let's label them anti Americanism propaganda too.

BS. CNN (CNN International) makes its money dealing with foreign tyrannical state governments, and pushing those government's anti American propaganda on US viewers.

So stop with the Big Government nonsense. We don't need any government gatekeepers, whether it's Russian or CNN doing deals with foreign governments.
