I am back. Was at a ceremony honoring Heroes’ cried a lot but very proud. That’s all I can say.Our son-in-laws crew was moved to Port St Lucia last night to a beachfront hotel.I was very worried about the location. They just had a 100 MPH gust. They lost all electric and cell phone service an hour ago. Weather channel said storm surge was going to be way down so they should be OK.
3.3 million without service.

Indeed, and tornados are always hard to see on doppler, where they fall between pixels at all beyond close range, and have to be tracked via the parent mesocyclone.

These are much worse, narrower, not near as tall, no parent meso, and not even any long buildup of a supercell, they flick in and out with little warning.

Spike Lee may have unwillingly performed a public service by glamourising that sideways shooting method. John Wayne, Annie Oakley, Roy Rodgers, Dirty Harry, etc couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn shooting sideways

Not saying the hurricane isn’t serious, but it didn’t do more than 10% of the damage predicted or being hyped 24 hours ago. It lost strength, tacked West, and is moving across Florida quite rapidly.

We’re getting smacked around pretty good now near Aripeka... suspect the thumping we’re getting now are green pine cones going fast enough to give a person a concussion...

Yes. It’s getting rough outside.

Winds should decrease around 3 a.m.

No one is arguing what is BETTER!

But I listened to a volunteer from Connecut relaying tornado warnings and weather updates ALL DAY LONG to people on Zello because they had a free app but didn’t have a $150 radio.

I’m listening to people with emergencies RIGHT NOW on Zello because they can’t get through to 911.

If you have dispatch experience there are some guys on those channels who have been disseminating information for 80 solid hours. Go help. It’s a free app.

Is it just me, or is the East coast getting hammered worse than the West coast?

Scary. One of the local news stations showed a large piece of wood that pierced the wall of a mobile home during the Palm Bay tornado today.

Only a 1=3 foot surge in sarasota predicted and that’s an hour south of tampa. I had to go to CNN via you tube too very any local coverage.

I've seen info that says that there was a 4 or 5' storm surge in Naples. But it does look like the backside storm surge is not worse, as I suspected.

I saw this on a horse racing website. The track is located in the Broward/Dade county border.

http://live.drf.com//nuggets/38639-gulfstream-park-escapes-brunt-of-hurricane-irma

Gulfstream Park officials said damage to the grounds from Hurricane Irma was minimal to none after the worst of the storm had passed through the area by late Sunday afternoon.

Except for some palm fronds litering the area, the barn area and racetrack appeared to suffer no effects from the monster storm, the eye of which passed well to the west of Gulfstream Park.

Officials said no decision on when racing might resume at Gulfstream Park would be made until Monday at the earliest Entries have been drawn for Wednesday’s and Thursday’s programs but there are many factors involved not the least of which is when the majority of horses who were evacuated from the track would be able to return to the grounds. Officials said all but approximately 250-300 horses were evacuated, many to the track’s satellite training center, Palm Meadows, located 40 miles to the north in Boynton Beach. A large number were also moved to Ocala which unfortunately is now expected to be in the general path of Irma later this evening and into Monday morning.

I agree. Compared to the past hurricanes that have went through Florida, Irma wasn’t that impressive.

Now the islands that saw Irma at cat 5 have a different story to tell.

I am in Fayetteville, TN about 35 miles north of Huntsville. Irma hurricane is projected to be a Tropical storm or depression by the time it gets to TN. My wife and I lived 17 miles from Key West for 10 years and ducked our fair share of hurricanes, tropical storms an depressions. Irma will come into TN with winds speeds of 40 to 60 mph - anything loose like deck furniture, trash cans, etc. needs to be secured. Having a generator is a good idea, since tree limbs and or trees will come down. Also flash flooding is possible in those areas that are prone to it. Don’t Panic.

I just read on TMZ that the storm surge in Key West was just three feet. And that the Hemingway Kitties and Hemingway House staff went through the storm unscathed.
