The Deir Ezzor Military Council announced a new US-backed offensive against the Islamic State in eastern Syria.
The US-led coalition announced today that the Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC) has begun a new offensive against the Islamic State in the Kahbur River valley. The offensive, named Operation Jazeera Storm, aims to dislodge the so-called caliphate from its strongholds north of the city of Deir Ezzor.
The new effort means that there are now two different coalitions trying to uproot the self-declared caliphate in eastern Syria.
Bashar al Assads regime, backed by Iran and Russia, has made progress in Deir Ezzor in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the Syrian regime said that its forces and allies had broken through the Islamic States siege of its positions in and around Deir Ezzor city. Abu Bakr al Baghdadis men began the siege in 2014 and their actions have contributed to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the area.

This is supported by the Coalition.
It is clear there is coordination between Russia and the US lead Coalition for this.
Note: There are oil fields on both sides of the Euphrates River. These are important to what follows the end of ISIS.
Not to mention bringing battle-hardened, Russian-armed Hezbollah and Iranian troops right up to the Israeli Golan border with Syria. Which is also supported by the ‘Coalition’ with US backing.
Right now, Israel is holding its largest war game in years in that area, but the premise is based on old Hezbollah tactics ... which cannot defeat Hezbollah WHEN they invade. This apparently has US blessings ... US troops have been ordered to pull out of the way, allowing trapped ISIS convoy fighters to pass to safety again. Iranians and other anti-Israeli forces are rejoicing at the US finally seeing the light. The Russians are smirking ... stupid Americans.
russians already liberated the town.
” SAC”
“ Jazeera Storm”
I thought this article was satire
Sadly it is not
No, it is for real. The Oil Fields are important.
I have great sympathy for those who risk their lives daily to try and make a better life for themselves and their family.
Is very easy to be cynical about the Middle East. Such brutality. It is refreshing to know some of them who are genuine. And I do know some.
Is SAC a force sanitized of YPG to meet Turkish approval?
Most of the ISIS trapped there are dead. The families are the ones they are letting go again.
No. It is not. I’ve seen pictures of YPJ helping with the civilian’s liberated.
No mention of SDF, only YPG and YPJ in the maps I’ve seen.
If you like I could send you links to the maps.
And that is why I have to hand it to the SAA
Fighting so many enemies and dying for what - Syria under Assad
And greeted as liberators by ordinary Syrians, so it seems
Yet we remain in denial
So Turkey js OK now with Kurds crossing the Euphrates ?
No. I’m sure they are not.
But, at this point? I probably makes no difference.
There are a number of reasons.
The Real Housewives of ISIS - lets give them all EU passports
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4865326/Female-ISIS-torturer-describes-horrors-inflicted.html
Hezbellah and Qud’s are the SAA Army. Reality check.
Families? Who knows who is in the vehicles - future ISIS child fighters and female suiciders?
What is SAC then?
Another group we created to have a seat at the table when the country is divided up?
We are bringing in Kurd political leaders groomed in Germany?
Whatever we are doing i am sure still has the long term goal of toppling Assad and replacing him with leaders we choose
Wrong for anyone who has been even casually following the ground war
From the beginning there has been a division of roles among the Iranians, Russians and Syrians
Aleppo was not cheering Hezbollah liberating the city nor are the citizens of Deir Ezzor
But many shiite areas brutalized by ISIS and al,Nusra have welcomed Iranian and Iraqi based shia militia fighting with them
The inconvenient sequel is what happens after they win?
Cant let those Iranian fighters stay or go back to western Syria and threaten Israel now that they can turn their attention elsewhere
Cant let those Kurds expand into Turkey
We have to not let a Syrian ( or Kurdish) victory happen - regardless of what is being said.
The Civil War will heat up again after the common enemy - ISIS - is defeated. America should not be in the middle of this mess.
really ?
you don’t want to watch which one of our jihadists finally win ?
The Pentagon’s darlings
or maybe
McCains ‘moderates’
or possibly
the CIAs buddies
or could it be the
‘honest we-aren’t Marxist-Lenninists anymore’ PKK ?
with every bureaucrat in Washington sending billions to their own favorite jihadists - it should be better than WWF to see who wins
Its not a “civil” war when we have to import and arm 30-40,00 foreign islamists to fight it
SAA are Syrian army troops, not Iranian militias.
Spare us the deep state bs.
