Hurricane Irma Live Thread III

The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.

Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

speaking of sucking up gulf water, here’s a video of Long Island Beach, Bahamas after Irma passed:

Reports are that the water is gradually coming back in. I wonder if something similar with happen to the Keys?

What you really want is one of these; there are instructions on the web for making them, especially small ones to put in a window; you used to be able to buy kits for the small ones:

You still have time. But the tracks are not solid yet.

I am a plainsman, so I can’t tell you what to do, but i would talk to the old timers in the area and see what they think. I those that have seen such things before sometimes more than the guy on TV

Well, I’ve grown up in the lake effect snow belt areas of NY, where it can go from sunny to white out blizzard conditions in a 1/4 mile.

Or if the bands come up from behind you, you can find yourself in a whiteout with no clue it was coming.

The bands are very well defined.

Freaks out newcomers.

Of course, if you go out when you know you can’t see the road, you get what you asked for.

No, you are the one screaming at another member to SHUT THE HELL UP in caps and arguing with them over their opinion about the track of this storm. I’m not the angry one.

I’ve been on ALL THREE of the IRMA threads. So don’t even try it with me. I’ve not been angry OR arguing with anyone through all three treads.

My post was about the “cranky weather guy” you decided to post his tweet saying SW FLA was going to be destroyed then he followed it up with a “G’NIGHT”
I found what he tweeted to be uncalled for when real people lives are at stake. That’s my opinion. Deal.

LOL. Yep.

Seeing it go from a sunny day to just white in minutes can freak out those who haven’t dealt with it.

But Irma is still on that WNW track she started doing when the Cuban coast first grabbed her. The Cuban coast has veered away toward Havana. No longer hugging coast.

Yep! What was it last time?

Also slowing down with the shift in degree show’s the sharp turn is ramping up.

She gonna just dawdle there?

for a little while (hours), yes.... to make a hard right turn, the storm needs to stop moving forward first.

Irma has done that. Moving west is getting hard.. so, now she's trying to figure out which way is easiest...

Though if you want to see Irma ‘waking up’ from her siesta down by Cuba, this animation is pretty incredible...
