Hey all! Equifax probably leaked your financial information along with that of 143,000,000 others last week. Before it was announced their management sold off a lot of stock (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/sep/07/equifax-credit-breach-hack-social-security) and like me you are thinking 'wow! What a coincidence, eh?'

Rather than them acting proactively on protecting you and your information, you have to go to a website and then wait for days for them to protect you. I guess the stock sale took a bit out of their energy levels, so please check at https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/potential-impact/ and then register. BTW their asses are 3.44 billion dollars and that divided by 143,000, should cover the damages but you and I will get bupkis and their management already sold much of their stock. You might want to look up the the term BOHICA

The “check site” is guiding you to sign up to their premium package.

I already checked this morning and I have been impacted. There needs to be some kind of retribution against these companies that cannot protect personal information.

To top it off, the big whig’s sold their stock off immediately after it was uncovered internally and before it became public knowledge.

The site says “To determine if your personal information may have been impacted by this incident, please follow the below steps.” Instead of saying ‘compromised’ they try to soften the blow by using the euphemism ‘impacted’. Even after this massive breech, they are still trying to manage perceptions.

Instead of ‘incident’ I’m surprised they didn’t call it a ‘matter’ like Loretta Lynch did.

how do we know this is a true site?

I wouldn’t do anything until I knew that this was real.

It isn’t even Equifax.com

So, I'm going to go to their compromised site and enter my SSN to find out if my SSN has been compromised just to make it official? 🤔

“The Atlanta-based company said Thursday that “criminals” exploited a US website application ...”

The CRIMINALS are the Equifax executives that sold their stock before the breach was made public. If this isn’t insider trading...then Hillary Clinton is an honest person.

Lets see... I provide my last name and 6 of 9 digits to my SSAN. Another 1000 guesses at most and bingo... I have a match.

Where does that link go?
Nice way to acquire that kind of info...

I’m thinking it must be a scam. I’ve never used Equafax services, but I did the check and it stated:

Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.

It “may” have been impacted. They would know definitively if it had been or not. Scam if you ask me.

This site is very suspect. By providing the last 6 digits of your SS #, you are essentially providing a key to your full SS #. The first 3 numbers are fixed by the state or territory from which it was issued. A very small universe of 3 digit numbers.

Right...you’re telling me the smart thing to do is go to a site that just went up and give them the last 6 numbers of my SS?

Yep...I’m all over it.

Based on that information, you will receive a message indicating whether your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.

No it doesn't. You receive a very weird message to check back on a future date. On Reddit people have been told to check back on September 11 or 12. I was told:

Thank you, Your enrollment date for TrustedID Premier is 09/12/2017. Please be sure to mark your calendar as you will not receive additional reminders. On or after your enrollment date, please return to faq.trustedidpremier.com and click the link to continue through the enrollment process. For more information, visit the FAQ page."
Just unbelievable. They lose our critical data and tell us to "please cool your jets for a week [while we desperately figure out what to do now]."

For those not willing to click the link, you can check through the official Equifax site.

Time to investigate the peculiar timing of the discovery of the breach and the stock sell-off.

And I love the response from the company: "we'll offer you 1 year free of our monitoring service". And that helps me how, exactly?
