President Donald Trump briskly overruled congressional Republicans and his own treasury secretary Wednesday to cut a deal with Democrats to keep the government operating and raise America's debt limit. The immediate goal was ensuring money for hurricane relief, but in the process the president brazenly rolled his own party's leaders.

...brushing aside the urgings of GOP leaders and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for a much longer extension to the debt limit. Republicans want that longer allowance to avoid having to take another vote on the politically toxic issue before the 2018 congressional elections.

The session painted a vivid portrait of discord at the highest ranks of the Republican Party. After an angry August that Trump spent lobbing attacks at fellow Republicans, specifically targeting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell...

At first, in Wednesday's Oval Office meeting, the Republicans lobbied for an 18-month debt ceiling extension, then 12 months and then six, but Trump waved them off. As Mnuchin continued to press an economic argument in favor of a longer-term deal, Trump tired of it and cut him off mid-sentence. ...

Aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters, "We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer." He didn't mention Republicans McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who also had been present...

"I think the deal will be very good," Trump added.

Barely an hour earlier, Ryan had slammed the Democrats' demand for a three-month extension as "ridiculous and disgraceful." He issued no public statement on the final deal...

The deal struck Wednesday at the White House promises to speed the $7.9 billion Hurricane Harvey aid bill, which passed the House overwhelmingly Wednesday...The debt ceiling and government funding extensions will be attached.

As a Houstonian, I don’t particularly want the feds in here. I figure that they’ll just make things more complicated while lining their pockets. We and Texas know how to take care of ourselves...and way too many others (see: Katrina).

That said, because George W. Bush had such a pansy, anemic ability to defend himself, he capitulated in the face of unwarranted criticism to his government’s response and shoved untold billions of dollars into NOLA after Katrina. As we know, there was immense graft that came with that money. HOWEVER, Bush set the precedent for federal disaster response that no President will ever be able to go against again.

Trump knows this, and he’s got more important fish to fry. And his party in Congress are a bunch of uncooperative, subversive, limp-dicked assholes to him and the American people. If he steamrolls them in a situation like this, I don’t care. And he gets to say that he was “bipartisan” and then hold that up against both sides when it serves his purpose. My only regret is that he didn’t use an actual steamroller on them.

I don’t think PRyno gas EVER passed a budget.

I was going to write that down also since he just signed continuing resolutions of the U.S. Budget every year with that American Hating, Narcissist, Marxist, Imposter after the Drunkard John Boehner quit.

You are 100% correct that Paul Ryan needs to go as the Speaker period.

Dennis Hastert, John Boehner, and now Paul Ryan as Speakers of the Peoples House. No wonder we are over $20 Trillion in debt with around $17 Trillion or so coming the last 16 years.
