Robert Spencer: Should Anti-trust Laws Be Used to Break Up the Social Media Giants?
Jihad Watch ^ | September 1st 2017 | Robert Spencer

Posted on 09/02/2017 2:10:55 AM PDT by Jacquerie

The secular Left and the proponents of Islamic blasphemy laws have a new issue on which they are making common cause: the quest to destroy the freedom of speech, the cornerstone of our democracy.

After Charlottesville, the Left sees its chance to crush all dissent, and given its alliance with Islamic supremacists, this means the implementation in the West of prohibitions on criticism of Islam, including counterterror analysis of the motivating ideology of jihad terrorists. This anti-free speech initiative, if it succeeds, will destroy free society, which cannot exist if one is unable to speak out against the tyrant.

The Left is trying to use Charlottesville as its Reichstag Fire moment to try to crush all dissent. CNN gave the Southern Poverty Law Center’s spurious “hate group” list wide play, and an effort has begun to deny all platforms to those “hate groups,” without any regard for the fact that the SPLC includes legitimate organizations that dissent from the Leftist agenda (including the David Horowitz Freedom Center and Jihad Watch) on the list along with the KKK and neo-Nazis, in an attempt to defame and destroy the legitimate groups.

(snip)

In his interview of Jordan Peterson, Carlson asked what governments should do with companies such as Google that are more powerful than the government itself. Peterson answered: “I’m not sure the government knows what to do.” Susan Benesch, director of the Dangerous Speech Project, said in July: “Facebook is regulating more human speech than any government does now or ever has.”

So what is to be done? In other industries the government has used anti-trust laws when free markets are threatened. Here the free marketplace of ideas is threatened. Should the anti-trust laws be invoked to break up Google and Facebook?

A common saying in Internet circles for many years is “the Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.”

We are starting to see the beginnings of this with regards to the SJW activism from Sili Valley magnates. If you’re here on Free Republic and haven’t chnanged your default search engine on all your devices/browsers to something other than Google, you’re behind the curve (Duck Duck Go here). Gab.ai is developing as an alternative to Twitter. There are a number of alternatives to YouTube developing.

Will it be painful? Sure. But it is do-able.

Yes! Right off the bat, YouTube and android should be separated from Google. And Skype should be separated from Microsoft. Just for beginners. Those purchases should never have been allowed in the first place!

What few know, even here oh FR , is that Obama used Google and Facebook executives to organize Arab Spring, teaching Muslin International students through the State Department how to organize Arab Spring without Egyptian or Libyan government authorities knowing about it. In other words Obama taught the Arab masses how to being about the failed Arab Spring “Revolution” using flash mobs via Google and Facebook encrypted communications.

This is not freeing people , it is the use of Alinsky Tactics to secure territory on behalf of Liberal Fascism. The same happened in Kenya in 2007 and thousands died in riots brought about by Obama’s work with the Kenyan Orange Party. Tripoli and Libya lay in ruins because of it.

Obama is a fascist. Aided by the Likes of Google and Facebook. Such insurrection continues here in the USA with groups such as AntiFA and Red Neck Revolution ( armed).

Break up Google and Facebook? You bet. They are nothing but fascist flash mob organizers designed to pose as social media. They are the same as the beer hall functionally. Racial and Ethnic Nationalist Socialists here in America, spurred on by Obama and the likes of race monger Al Sharpton, liberal fascists all, with the help of flash mob organizers via encryption: Google and Facebook.

The Arab Spring has come to America.

No.

Adults can learn to stop using them, and use something else.

No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to go to those sites.

Modern Islam (if that is not a contradiction) is a blood-thirsty religion. Yes that is criticism.

Yes, but expect nothing from Trump's Justice Department as long as Sessions sleeps.

...the cornerstone of our democracy.

Poor man, as smart as he is he doesn't even know that our form of government isn't democracy.

Three years ago, who would have believed we’d be going to YouTube for the News?

And now they’re screwing THAT up.

I wonder what’s next for a reliable news platform?

I weep for my country when it is conservatives who are lusting for bigger and bigger government.

Swapping from one liberal to another liberal is a good move?

NSA scandal delivers record numbers of internet users to DuckDuckGo
Of the privacy angle, he says: "I kind of backed into that." It wasn't a political decision, but a personal one. "It's hard to define my politics. I take every issue seriously and come to my own conclusion. I don't really feel like I belong to any political party in the US … I guess I'm more on the liberal side."

I would say, "that is truth".

Well said, FreedomPoster.

The SJW mindset taken up by those with a megaphone (think Google and Facebook and Twitter and HuffPo, as examples) is the damaging component of this current configuration.
Conservative alternatives need to be not only developed but PATRONIZED by folks supportive of their aims and willing to commit resources (subscriptions, for instance) to insure, ultimately, parity in the marketplace of ideas and free speech.

In a larger scope, too, we must challenge the libturd mindset at every turn. We must demand they offer evidence in support of their twisted views. We cannot allow them to forever control the terms of the debate.

But, most of all, we must be ready to fight for the freedoms granted us by God and journalized by the Founders in both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

He’s not tracking and not censoring. I notice you didn’t offer a better alternative, you’re just standing around throwing rocks.

In all candor, everyone who has half a measure of integrity knows the SPLC is the same kind of "code" as "immigration reform," was Pre-Trump.

Any entity referencing the SPLC as a source immediately EVISCERATES their own credibility with Americans who are even nominally aware.
