Harvey climate deniers take a page from Big Tobacco | Editorial
New Jersey Star-Ledger ^ | August 31, 2017 | By Star-Ledger Editorial Board

Harvey is precisely the kind of weather event that scientists have been predicting climate change would give us, a monster hurricane with severe downpours and devastating flooding.

Yet some are still resisting reality, by noting that we can't connect this specific storm to climate change.

The same is true of cancer and tobacco, as climate scientist Heidi Cullen points out. We still can't say for sure that someone who smokes two packs a day and dies from lung cancer died because of smoking.

The pace and severity of global storms today is unnatural, as are the melting glaciers and rising sea levels.

And still, President Trump has called global warming a "hoax" and slashed crucial programs that help us reduce and adapt to the reality of climate change.

Forty-five percent now tell Gallup pollsters they worry "a great deal" about climate change, up from 25 percent in 2011.

In 2008, the Republican platform faced this reality, and called for a cap-and-trade program. But the party has since lost its bearings on this issue, thanks to irresponsible leaders like Trump. Only 38 percent of GOP voters agreed that human activity has led to higher temperatures in a Gallup poll last year.

It would certainly help if Republican leaders publicly acknowledged the connection, as even many oil and gas firms operating in Houston have.

Hurricanes like this have been happening since the beginning of time. What's significant is the the frequency of major hurricanes in the US has dropped dramatically over the last 15 years.

The same sort of lying schicklgruber who tried telling us that Obama’s rising-oceans-order that hadn’t even gone into effect (and was recently repealed by Trump) was the reason for all this disaster. Except the ocean level didn’t rise, water went into the sky in a big rainstorm and fell down on the area.

Why don’t they just say “give us all your money & we’ll fix it” when they know very well they cannot.

Yes. So what? There's a big yellow thing in the sky that drives the climate on Earth. Earth's climate changes. But it's not mine or anyone else's SUV that's causing it.

Those are facts. Who are the deniers now?

They warned for the 5th year in a row that this would be a VERY active season. Except the past few years have been “washouts” (or mythmaking).

“Very active” does not mean one really big storm of the type they hadn’t seen before.

Ha ha ha ha.

Fake News now pretends to be experts on global warming and to lecture us on how to live.

Are there names attached to this fake news editorial? Maybe we should see how live. I am betting Leonardo DiCaprio type hypocrisy. Not in degree, of course—but in kind.

The 1880’s was the worse decade for Hurricanes making landfall, 25. 1886 was the worse year, 9 hurricanes made landfall. The decade 2010-2020 is on track to have the lowest number of hurricanes to make landfall in recorded time.

Well, obviously you're wrong. Hurricanes are created only when people put s tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The next time (which will be the first time) the so-called climate scientists can provide a valid model, I'll start believing them. But since all of the current models begin with a bogus set of data points, it's hard for those of us with an actual scientific and/or engineering background to take them seriously, except in their role as SJWs.

They deny that a baby in the womb is alive.

They deny that a man with a penis is male.

They deny relative all the live long day.

They also deny the atrocities and human rights violations under godless Communism.

They couldn’t even “predict” this storm 7 days beforehand.

I wonder how these mentally ill moonbats explain the sinking of Spanish galleons in the Caribbean and off the coat of Florida in the 1500’s?

“I’ll take Hurricanes Caused Them to Sink for $200, Alex.”

If temps haven’t actually been rising, how can this correlation make sense?

The temperature within the band of totality during the last eclipse dropped an average of 8 degrees F.

So, the moon controls Global Climate Cooling? Should we regulate and ban the moon?
Note my tag-line.

I guess they don’t even see the irony of their own editorial ramblings. They point out that the GOP included a cap-and-trade program in their platform in 2008, but fail to mention that the GOP candidate lost to a jug-eared nitwit exchange student from Kenya. Then they criticize Donald Trump for downplaying “climate change” ... but never state the obvious by pointing out that he WON.

There have been fifty years of endless, dogmatic liberal editorials in Newark, New Jersey. There are no conservative voices. People only have to examine today’s Newark and see the results when the Left comes to dominate.
