Berkeleys mayor is pressuring the towns flagship university to cancel its upcoming free speech week just days after the schools chancellor vowed to defend the First Amendment on campus.
As Campus Reform previously reported, University of California, Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ welcomed students to campus last week with a forceful defense of free speech, vowing to hold accountable those who use violence to shut down speakers.

The mayor is tied at the hip with the thugs.
Our Constitution says that Freedom of Speech is an inalienable right.
I’d like to see an Amendment that makes it a fedral offense to hide your face while in a public assembly. The masked men and women who now own our city streets? I consider that very un-American.
California has no-mask laws. I wonder who told the local police to not enforce it. Hmmmm.

ANTIFA GONE WILD: ‘No Trump! No Wall! No USA At All!’

Berkeleys mayor is pressuring the towns flagship university to cancel its upcoming free speech week just days after the schools chancellor vowed to defend the First Amendment on campus.
Chancellor Carol Christ recently reminded students to respect the free speech rights of commentators like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter, both of whom are coming to campus in September.
Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, however, fears that the provocative speakers will be “a target for black bloc to come out and commit mayhem on the Berkeley campus and have it potentially spill out on the street.”

In her statement, Christ informed students that the university would be hosting controversial speakers such as Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter in September during what has been dubbed Free Speech Week.
Particularly now, it is critical that the Berkeley community come together once again to protect this right. It is who we are, Christ added, even labeling the approaching school year a free speech year.

But now she is facing pressure from Mayor Jesse Arreguin, who is urging Christ to reconsider her plans to welcome conservatives to campus.
I dont want Berkeley being used as a punching bag, Arreguin told The San Francisco Chronicle. I am concerned about these groups using large protests to create mayhem.
Arreguin went on to assert that he is primarily concerned about violent protests erupting, as was the case when Yiannopoulos first tried to speak on campus in February.
Im very concerned about Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter and some of these other right-wing speakers coming to the Berkeley campus, because its just a target for black bloc to come out and commit mayhem on the Berkeley campus and have it potentially spill out on the street, he continued, though he also insisted that he supports free speech.

I obviously believe in freedom of speech, but there is a line between freedom of speech and then posing a risk to public safety, he stated, saying that his goal is to ensure that while protecting peoples free-speech rights, we are not putting our citizens in a potentially dangerous situation.
In response, Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof told The Chronicle that the university has neither the legal right nor ability to interfere with or cancel invitations based on the perspectives and beliefs of the speakers, and could only take precautions against potential violence.
Where we do have discretion is around everything that has to do with the safety of our communities, and the well-being of those who may feel threatened or harmed by what some of these speakers may espouse, he elaborated. We can assure you that those priorities, along with our commitment to free speech, remain at the center of our planning and priorities.

Stupid blog is nothing but autoplay videos and security warnings. Just post it here if it’s worth posting.
I really hope they can keep the white supremacist idiots away from this.
This is the way the mayor advertises that they have insufficient 'crowd control movable fences'
in order to control free speech advocates
and force them to run the gauntlet into Antifa
and then have the police just observe the conflict without taking any action.
Same ole', same ole',.. Part #II
Where I live, every week is free speech week. It’s protected by the U.S. Constitution.
I wish James Woods was doing more movies lately.
A couple of crappy TV series and that’s it.

Can’t believe the guy is now 70 years old.
She’d look more serious about her anarchy with a bullet in her forehead. I mean, she wants anarchy and communism at the same time; that is what Antifa is about. Anarchy is without rules, communism is all about rules. She wants to be a hero, so put a bullet in her head and make her a martyr.
The mayor is dangerously irresponsible. He cannot let the masked thugs control the streets. The police MUST take out the masked thugs whenever they gather. Under California Penal Code Section 185 PC, it is unlawful to wear a mask or disguise in order to evade the police.
Honestly, this all comes down to one thing. We “Americans” have the right to free speech and assembly. If the Government is too weak to ensure the citizens this right, we will have to take measures to ensure it ourselves.
All responsibility for ending these terrorist organizations that are violating American’s Civil Rights rests on the DOJ. Thus far, they are giving the terrorist organizations free reign.
Taxpayers, deserve answers, I have seen none!
It would be more like “Kick Azz Week” with the AltLeft goon squads beating down anyone they imagined harbored secret “fascist” thoughts. They would be demanding self-criticism sessions.
“Free speech is fascism!!!” #AltLeft
Free Speech was cancelled a long time ago.
