Gary Cohn says Trump's Charlottesville reaction put 'enormous pressure' on him to resign

Top White House economic advisor Gary Cohn says he seriously considered resigning after President Donald Trump's reaction to the violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"I have come under enormous pressure both to resign and to remain in my current position," Cohn said during an interview with the Financial Times about economic policy.

"As a Jewish-American, I will not allow neo-Nazis ranting 'Jews will not replace us' to cause this Jew to leave his job. I feel deep empathy for all who have been targeted by these hate groups. We must all unite together against them," Cohn said.

The former president of Goldman Sachs has said that the administration "must do better" when condemning neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Initially following the protests the president blamed "both sides" for causing protests to become deadly. Trump also said there were some "very fine people" among the white supremacist protesters.

Cohn met with Trump privately last Friday and even drafted a resignation letter, The New York Times reported.

President Trump, Aug. 14, 2017:

“Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.”

Resign! The Trump administration is NO PLACE for the weak and cowardly.

We now know the whole Charlottesville “incident” was a setup. Russia was a nothingburger, so they go back to “racist”, “racist”, “racist”!

What a loser. This guy should be fired just for spending more than two seconds of his time pretending that neo-Nazis and white supremacists are among the 500 biggest problems most Americans are facing.

President Trump, to his credit, only dealt with this nonsense in response to a public media outcry. Remember -- his comments in the lobby of Trump Tower came in response to a cacophony of questions about Charlottesville from a bunch of media losers at a public announcement that was supposed to be about the White House initiatives for public infrastructure.

Cry me a river, @sshole. Maybe you should just kill yourself by toppling a Robert E. Lee monument on top of your head, and spare yourself (and the people of this country) the agony of these trials and tribulations.

Indisputably true. Trump also said there were some "very fine people" among the white supremacist protesters.

Total misquote, but most likely true. Sincere non-racist people like statues too.

Why is Trump so incredibly bad at hiring people?

Aides who can’t keep their mouths shut outside of their official duties need to be fired for that offense alone.

Because he still hasn’t gotten that the swamp begets swamp creatures. He still tends toward a business hiring model.

The ONLY calm, non-hysterical voice calling for peace and unity IS TRUMP. This idiot Cohn and others wringing their hands and getting their panties all twisted are just people easily manipulated by the Media and the Left (but I repeat myself).

When Trump mentioned that "there were good people on both sides" he was referring to the actual circumstance that some of the people who want to preserve the statues are not Neo-Nazis or white supremists as some of the people protesting were not Antifa. Trump was attempting to remind Americans that we used to have a tradition of defending the right to free speech, even if we may oppose the substance of the message. Trump, as President, understands THAT is what is at risk. . and he STOOD TALL to defend that principle. . .because without it WE HAVE NO COUNTRY. . .and it will just be a matter of time before the whims of the Left will drive any and all deemed opposition into the Killing Fields. THAT'S THE REAL LESSON OF CHARLOTTESVILLE.

I do not understand why press credentials haven't been removed from those "reporters" who are out-of-control, disdainful, and rude. That infrastructure press conference should've started with "we're only taking questions about this administrations infrastructure initiatives. Any reporter who doesn't stay focused on this topic or is disruptive will be removed and their press credentials will be revoked".

Sara Huckabee Sanders is okay. She's articulate and loyal. But it is past time to get daddy Mike Huckabee into the WH to set down some rules about controlling the media. And, oh yeah, there should be some ordinary, from day one, not millionaire Deplorables in the WH and appointed to other positions by now.

Pres. Trump should just direct the CFTC and SEC to enforce their trading rules on the insiders who having been manipulating COMEX for quite some time — today’s action is blatant manipulation on thin trading markets — especially in Gold and Silver.

It is in these markets that the establishment derive their power via manipulating weights and measures to “create” their own money out of nothing but debt instruments.

If President. Trump does this, Cohen will not be able to leave fast enough!

CEOs go to experts for advice on areas they aren’t expert in. The Council on Foreign Relations and Goldman-Sachs are the go-to experts on the American government. Any CEO who asked around would quickly be told that.

I don’t recall Candidate Trump going much to Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan for advice on government appointees.
