Then the US won’t particularly take Germany’s side next time they need something. And from the looks of things, they’ll be begging this time next week.
Angela Merkel is not politically reliable even within Germany, can’t expect her to be able to weigh in with much authority on international affairs.
Negotiating with the Communist Kim royal dynasty is less fruitful than negotiating with the Habsburgs or the Bourbons. The Kim family learns nothing and forgets nothing.
The sad fact is that Germany wouldn’t be able to take America’s side in a Korean conflict even if it wanted to. Germany cannot project power beyond its immediate border countries. Its military has zero ability to go anywhere outside of Europe in force.
In her efforts to inconvenience or embarrass President Trump, Merkel is choosing to stand with some very interesting new alliances. This could signal a dramatic shift of national perspective for Germany, or it could be simply an expression of temporary pique. Just last week, Angela M. agreed for Germany to pay more of it’s debt to NATO. She was not lovin’ it one bit.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Germany planning on attacking Pearl Harbor again?
Kinda makes you wonder what Germany is selling to NK.
Eh? Guess an isolated war on the Korean peninsula isn’t big enough for her traditional German tastes.
Easy to urge peace when the missles are not pointed at you.
“Berlin would not necessarily take the side of Washington in a potential war against North Korea,”
What side would they take?
It’s time for the USA to rethink NATO.
Maybe the US shouldn’t take sides with Germany should Russia decide to roll through...again.
This is why we need out of the UN and NATO. We do all the heavy lifting just to get criticised while paying for everything. By getting out of both we lose all of the back seat drivers.
“Lead, follow, or get the F#&k out of the way.”
Germany has returned to darkness. Pre-end time, mystery of lawlessness.
The 1950-1953 Korean war was under the umbrella of the UN. The US and South Korea forces carried the brunt of the battle, but there were contingents from, GB, Australia, Canada, Turkey, France and a few others combined in one regiment. The UN controlled the strategic war. That is, they mandated the 38th parallel be held as the permanent front line and we were unable to take the offensive. The NK and Chinese troops tried to advance to Pusan (again), but we held them at the 38th. The US and ROK could have advanced to the Yalu River and erased all division, but the UN would not permit us, and the US didn’t disobey. Hence, the problem we have today.
There is no way to win a war by staying on the defense!!!
Can't Understand Normal Thinking?
Time to relocate a lot of US Military bases, soldiers and equipment.
The NKs have to get their precision electronics and hardware somewhere.
FUBAR Big time!
Time to call a meeting of NATO for clarification.
