SALEM State Rep. Geoff Diehl stopped in Salem Thursday, a first step on what promises to be a long road in his effort to unseat U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Diehl, a fourth-term Republican from Whitman, served as co-chairman of President Donald Trump's campaign in Massachusetts. He spoke to about a dozen supporters at the Hawthorne Hotel as part of a statewide tour after announcing his candidacy on Tuesday.

Diehl touted his work on repealing automatic gas tax increases and his opposition to bringing the Olympics to Boston, both of which saved taxpayers money, he said. He also said he opposes sanctuary cities, an issue that Salem residents will vote on this fall.
"We need to strengthen our borders," he said. "We need to make sanctuary cities a thing of the past."

Salem residents Mary Madore and Roger LaMontagne attended the event and both said they support Diehl.
"I'm sick to death of Warren and (Senator Ed) Markey," Madore told Diehl. "I'm absolutely thrilled you're running. We need fresh air."

I wish him well.
That would be an incredible epic upset to see him knock off Fauxchontas next year.
How appropriate that the first campaign stop to unseat the witch should be in Salem.
Wonder if he has any chance at all in Mass? Not trying to be sarcastic. Just curious...
Scott Brown did, listen to Jeff Kuhner out of WRKO 680am Boston, I think Kuhner-man thinks so.. IMHO Warren and Stabenow are the most beat-able Senate Dems in the country.... believe!!!
Sure he does. Turnout has lots to do with it.
There is a bedrock of old Yankee conservatism throughout New England. Add to them others who would vote for Diehl or against Warren for a variety of reasons.
Scott Brown, Massachusetts Republican, won his special election in ‘10 by 40,000 votes. Diehl only has to win by a final count of a few votes.
Remember, Ronald Reagan carried Massachusetts twice, although demographics have changed a lot since then. Still, a huge turnout by conservatives and Republicans could easily surpass a mediocre turnout by libs.
A depressed liberal turnout will almost guarantee a big turnout by Trump supporters. Anything can happen, especially since the election is 15 months away.
Post election, 60 or 62 GOP senators would put the weak sister GOP senators in a box.
Probably about a ten percent chance. It is tough to say because Warren is not liked in many circles; she is just plain not a warm person. Geoff on the other hand is going to be running with Governor Baker who is extremely popular and should be a strong favorite to go back to the corner office. There will be ticket splits galore. My guess is that Geoff needs a great deal to break for him and it would not hurt to have a far left candidate run independently.
