We do not know for certain who fired the fatal shot. The attacker was a convicted felon. He had filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the landlord of his dead mother. That case was before the judge. His mother died in a fire.

Most federal judges carry. In Texas judges are required to carry. In Kansas they are allowed to carry and come in through a separate door to avoid the screening.
