Partials are interesting but you have to be in the totality zone to really appreciate the celestial phenomenon. The difference is like night and day. If anyone asks me I always say it is well worth the trip to see totality.

I watched a partial outside a local library where they handed out solar glasses. Sky didn't really get noticeably darker, even during the peak here, where the Moon covered the Sun by about 80%.

However, through the glasses, and at times when a thick cloud passed when you could see it without the glasses, it was incredible. Looked a lot like this below through the dark solar glasses...
