I left LI for Japan in 1985 ; still here . Never a big fan of Patchogue but some friends and I used to drive over there from the Center Moriches area ( I lived on the North Fork ) as there was a nice little bar there that served a variety of English ales , stouts and IPAs on tap which we dug . Never saw a hispanic of any persuasion in those days ...

That's because, you didn't go west enough. You would have needed to at least hit Brentwood, or Central Islip.

Ha, yes I can see the worm turning. How in the world would this guy know just what is up with long Island.

I was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. for my first few years of life, I lived in Smithtown, circa 1953, approx, then moved to the arm pit of Long Island, that would be Brentwood, circa 1956, then left Long Island, for the people's Republic of Washington State, in the pacific Northwest. circa 1977.

While growing up in Brentwood, at that time, the town / village, (Brentwood, is under the control of the Town of Islip) it was the LARGEST POPULATION OF Puerto Ricans, outside of Puerto Rico.

And another small tid-bit, (I am smiling) on my mother's side of the family, I was the 1st {first} to leave Long Island, in just over 300 {Three Hundred} years, I kid you not. We're talking, back to the French Huguenots, coming to Long Island.

My great-great-grandfather, (His last name was "De-Milt" [not sure of spelling]) was the last Long Islander to Mill wheat into flower, via a wind-mill, If I recall correctly, when my mother took me to see the place, I was very young, (between 6 - 10 years old) it was on Jericho Turnpike, a.k.a., State Route 25. All that was left was the "Hand Dug" approx, 2 or 3 acre pond. I remember reading the Family bible, and he would mention here and their how he , and the son's were making headway.

Can't remember if their is only 1 (one) pond, or if there are 2 (two.)

great-great-grandfather is buried not to far from the place. grave-yard If I recall correctly, is also on Jericho Turnpike, a.k.a., State Route 25.

I am happily residing in AZ, far away from that dysfunctional shit hole. Although I do miss Jones Beach and the Italian Food.
