Tillerson, Mattis rebuff Bannon claim of no 'military solution' for North Korea

Published August 17, 2017 Fox News

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Thursday rebuffed White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s claim to a liberal magazine that “there’s no military solution” for North Korea’s nuclear threats.

Bannon unloaded in an interview published late Wednesday by The American Prospect. He hammered the importance of what he called the “economic war with China,” dubbing the tensions with Pyongyang a “sideshow” and rejecting the notion there’s a military solution.

Asked Thursday about those comments, Tillerson and Mattis pushed back.

“We have been quite clear as to what the policy and the posture toward North Korea is,” Tillerson said. “… We are prepared. We’re prepared militarily, we’re prepared with our allies to respond if that is necessary.”

I suspect Bannon is frustrated because the administration's stance against China is weak, and one of the contributing factors is N. Korea. He does not want to see the China's trade issue used as a bargaining chip. In hist view, the whole thing is upside down. China is a main agenda and N. Korea, a minor one in comparison. The way it plays out now is probably the opposite, it seems.

I don’t know why Bannon said that but even if it were true it seems indefensible to undercut your nation’s military credibility. I also don’t trust these journalists to properly report his comments.

I don't want to see that happen either.

Limbaugh went on an anti Bannon rant today.

Bah.

Though it’s certainly possible, it might as well be described as impossible since it is only possible in extremis.
I mean, sure, it’s militarily possible but very unlikely for diplomatic, geopolitical, economic and ‘whatever’ reasons.

Limbaugh is a globalist.

He is many good things, but he is a sold-out globalist.

Bannon is under relentless attack at the moment. He and Trump, are about the ONLY American leadership currently saying we need to bring back industry to America.

Limbaugh, while very inspiring, should stay quiet on this issue.

Globalism and one side rape trade are Limbaugh’s religion. He thinks it’s a good way to fight unions which is stupid because over 90% of the workforce is non union now.

For giving this interview to a liberal mag - or for forcing it on them, more accurately to say - Bannon is either a fool or is playing a different game that I don’t recognize.

I guess we’ll know “after Labor Day”!

The whole episode is puzzling. Bannon was very loose lipped. Uncharacteristic.

Why would Bannon deliberately call a liberal journalist? That one confuses me.

Seoul can be evacuated so Mr. Bannon’s fears are not completely supported.

Bannon leaving the White House would be a great relief to Establishment status quo globalists everywhere. Limbaugh included.

Drudge has an article posted about Bannon from Roger Stone which is an eye-opening read. Stone says Bannon has not helped out the Trump base in many situations where he should have.

There's always a military solution to a situation. Always. Typically there are a range of possibilities. The only real question is cost, in terms of dollars, lives, and destruction. I have absolutely no-doubt we could "solve" the NK problem any number of ways.

At some point, the cost of putting up with NK and their BS, and the risk of increased "costs" of future potential crisis are going to make the cost of action now worth it. Then, it's on. Kim-jong whatever the eff has called the tune, he's going to have to pay up if he doesn't back off.

Mainly he’s debunking the myth that being nice to China can solve the ‘NK problem’.
Just the opposite: being tougher with them is the right response.
Show China that it can’t use NK for advantage.
