North Korea’s Missile Success Is Linked to Ukrainian Plant, Investigators Say
New York Times ^ | 14 August 2017 | William J Broad, David E. Sanger

North Korea’s success in testing an intercontinental ballistic missile that appears able to reach the United States was made possible by black-market purchases of powerful rocket engines probably from a Ukrainian factory with historical ties to Russia’s missile program, according to an expert analysis being published Monday and classified assessments by American intelligence agencies.

The studies may solve the mystery of how North Korea began succeeding so suddenly after a string of fiery missile failures, some of which may have been caused by American sabotage of its supply chains and cyberattacks on its launches. After those failures, the North changed designs and suppliers in the past two years, according to a new study by Michael Elleman, a missile expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Such a degree of aid to North Korea from afar would be notable because President Trump has singled out only China as the North’s main source of economic and technological support. He has never blamed Ukraine or Russia, though his secretary of state, Rex W. Tillerson, made an oblique reference to both China and Russia as the nation’s “principal economic enablers” after the North’s most recent ICBM launch last month.

Analysts who studied photographs of the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, inspecting the new rocket motors concluded that they derive from designs that once powered the Soviet Union’s missile fleet. The engines were so powerful that a single missile could hurl 10 thermonuclear warheads between continents.

"So... collluding with Russia??"

Spouting the party line or complete ignorance of Ukraine?

Don't kid yourself or swallow the McCain/Neocon BS, about half the Ukrainians have never forgiven the US for helping the Soviets during WWII. To this day they celebrate as heroes the Ukrainians who served in the Ukrainian SS and other SS divisions including those who served in paramilitary Einsatzgruppen dedicated to killing Jews and "subhuman" Slavs.

These engines are just the start of the blow back, not the full measure. The Ukrainians are fully capable of building nukes, not just the rocket engines to carry them.

It's not Russia, it's a repetition of every single clandestine overthrow of a government the US has ever pulled off. A sort of lethal Karma, if you will, that US leaders ignore because the what goes around comes around on the next guys watch, not theirs.

Porkyshinko can't control or trust information about anything going on over twenty miles from Kiev and the crowd with the real power are as anxious to kill Poles as they are to kill Russians.

Before it's all said and done, the Russians and Poles will both hold their noses long enough to deal with one another and decide how Ukraine should be divided up with Hungary sitting at the table, too, probably.

We royally screwed the pooch backing a coup there while at the same time fostering the Izlamization of Europe and trying to force the faithful in Eastern Europe to give up Christian values. It's a symptom of the great hubris that our now Neocon ruling class has, especially those inside the "Intelligence" community.

When our dollar is no longer sufficient to force cooperation, the people in DC won't know any more about the world outside DC, Southern Maryland, and Northern Virginia, than Porkyshinko knows about what goes on in Ukraine, a situation not far off IMHo.

What about the Hillary-Ukraine collaboration?

I read elsewhere that Hillary’s favorite Ukraine politicians were in in charge of this collab.

This the second time the NYTimes has run this story.

I never trust the NYTimes.

I think the story is a distraction from where the real assistance with North Korea is coming from - Iran and China.
