The response from a female southern white..."Well, they know their place."
I was stunned.
I was also told by a local cop to get rid of my NYS License plates ASAP.
Lived in the south for nearly 25 years. in a 5050 black white area... the only thing thats happened in that time was a red neck idiot rear ended my car and totaled it... thats it...
I learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut when out and about in suburban Boston while there for work related training.
No, I don’t have an Americanized Scot-Irish accent.
Ok, so you ran into an ignorant redneck. They exist in VA but they’re the minority.
Contrast that to when I went up to Pennsylvania to visit a friend in Harrisburg. We went to a local mall. Something hit me as weird. At first I couldn’t put a finger on it. Then I saw a black woman walked past.
She was the only black person I saw. No other shoppers, no employees. I couldn’t believe what I was experiencing.
I’ve heard Va. has a lot of mixed heritage persons. I haven’t personally seen that for myself, I’ve been there.
But the famous country singer, Patsy Cline was from there and she did have that.
As a Southerner, I don’t know anyone with that attitude.
People, both black and white, are politer in the South than in the North, in a general sense.
I’m in Alabama. AND, I have encountered many a rude black person as well as rude white person.
