SAN FRANCISCO — After leaving Harvard’s doctorate program in systems biology to join Google as a software engineer in 2013, James Damore joked on his Facebook page that he knew he had made the right move as he enjoyed a morning smoothie with oats. It was the type of workplace perk that is standard for Google employees.
That initial assessment of Google seemed far removed from the contentious memo written by the 28-year-old Mr. Damore last week that has enraged advocates of greater diversity in the technology industry. The memo has also served as a rallying cry for conservatives and the alt-right who view Google — and Silicon Valley — as a bastion of groupthink where people with different opinions are shamed into silence.
His 10-page memo, titled “Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber,” argued that “personality differences” between men and women — like a woman having a lower tolerance for stress — help explain why there were fewer women in engineering and leadership roles at the company. He said efforts by the company to reach equal representation of women in technology and leadership were “unfair, divisive, and bad for business.”
The memo was originally posted on an internal mailing list and was shared widely inside the company and throughout Silicon Valley. It struck a nerve and was harshly criticized inside a company and an entire industry struggling to explain why women are underrepresented in key engineering ranks and are often underpaid when compared with their male peers.

Having done a major amount of programming in C and Java, I believe the answer is obvious. Women suck at the self abusive act of software writing. How many nights have I spent with a Snickers and Pepsi at 3am trying to debug some sorry piece of code or hardware? You have to have ADHD to do this kind of crap work. Not women’s thing.
This is a result, not a reason.

Fact is, whites are shot more than blaks. It’s just that, thanks to social media, you hear about it more when it happens to blacks. When it happens to a white guy, people tend so see it as shooting a perp. That is not really news. When it happens to a black, it is seen as fascist cops shooting a harmless black man minding his own business. That is news. Even though it turns out that it is just cops shooting a perp that happens to be black.
And the real interesting thing is that the number of blacks shot by cops has been steadily declining for quite a few years.
You can’t believe everything you see on the internet. Interestingly, sometimes what you see is absolutely true, but gives a false impression. If facebook breathlessly showed videos of 10% of the traffic deaths in the US, you would think it is an epidemic and everybody is dying. But until texting really took off, it was actually going down.

This is a complete misrepresentation of what the actual memo said. This sort of thing is intellectually dishonest and is a bar to dialogue, not a help.
Google can argue that his memo created a hostile workplace for women... “Clearly, the company was concerned that he was making the environment difficult for people to do their jobs.”
Actions speak louder than words. The real hostility resulted in his firing, and simply validates his case.
This sort of thing slides so easily into hypocrisy because it never made any sense in the first place. Implicit in a woman's right to choose a technical career is her right not to, and pressuring women to do something they don't want to do in order to meet some artificial social justice quota is itself unjust. The people demanding it are not the champions of women, they're their enemies.

It's not false. Whites and Hispanics are not killed at a higher per-capita rate. They are killed at a higher rate per interaction with police. But blacks have more interactions and the total number is higher.

We need more women in politics, boardrooms, and leadership. Women are more compassionate, more sympathetic, and more empathetic than men. And will negotiate deals that are better for all parties involved including society rather than only in their own self-interest. ELECT HILARY because she’s a woman.

Mother Jones ran an article Here’s the Data That Shows Cops Kill Black People at a Higher Rate Than White People. They declared that, since cops kill black people at a rate of 2.74 (per million black people) versus a rate of 1.28 for whites ( a little over twice the rate for blacks), that this proves that cops are racist murderers.
However, when you take into account that blacks account for 51% of homicide arrests and 53% of robbery arrests (the two crimes where the cops are most likely to face violent resistance), while being just 13% of the population, then it indicates that the cops are trying VERY hard to not shoot blacks. Cops are probably putting their lives at risk to avoid sparking a riot.
Those very-weirdos might fit in @ a goofy joint like google, but anywhere else, I’m afraid they just wouldn’t cut it
They don't want a dialogue, they want people who contradict their ideas to shut up, and if they can't be made to "shut up", they wanted them punished in as brutal of a manner as possible.
At the root of Liberalism is a Puritan streak intent on punishing blasphemers for their own good.
