The attorney general called the open hostility against protecting law enforcement -- while protecting criminal aliens -- astounding given the influx of Chicagos violence crime.
The citys leaders cannot follow some laws and ignore others and reasonably expect this horrific situation to improve, Sessions continued.
The grants, named for former New York City police officer Edward Byrne, who was murdered in 1988, would provide $3.2 million to Chicago, to be used for police vehicles. Funding from the grant is a small fraction of the city's budget.
A requirement added to the grants would force local jurisdictions to report to federal officials of the release of illegal immigrants from police custody at least 48 hours in advance, which Emanuel said would violate citizens fundamental rights.
CRIME-RIDDEN CHICAGO SUES DOJ OVER SANCTUARY CITIES
Emanuel complains that the federal governments focus on enforcing the law would require a reordering of law enforcement practice in Chicago, Sessions said. But thats just what Chicago needs: a recommitment to the rule of law and to policies that rollback the culture of lawlessness that has beset the city.
Chicago will not let our police officers become political pawns in a debate, Emanuel said. Chicago will not let our residents have their fundamental rights isolated and violated. And Chicago will never relinquish our status as a welcoming city.
DOJ THREATENS TO WITHHOLD CRIME-FIGHTS FUNDS FROM FOUR SANCTUARY CITIES
Emanual said he did not think Chicago would be the last sanctuary city to file a lawsuit of this nature. Other cities the DOJ contacted about withholding funds of this nature include Baltimore, Albuquerque, N.M., and Stockton and San Bernardino, Calif...

"...open hostility against protecting law enforcement -- while protecting criminal aliens -- astounding..."
Emanuel figures American citizens can hole up in their homes afraid to go out at night so illegals can have the run of the city...
Hiz Honor is nuts...
Chicago, Chicago
That coddlin` town!
City officials will have to go to prison for them to take this seriously.
No surprise, given the Dimocrat Party’s open hostility to both law enforcement and the very laws themselves.
All of the treasonous sanctuary city lawbreaking is waking AG Sessions up from his naptimes.
Chicago civil servants ARE criminals themselves for violating our immigration laws. If they decide to ignore laws and protect criminals out of some misplaced liberal agenda, then they can do it on their own dime and face the consequences of violating our laws. PULL THEIR FEDERAL FUNDING!!!!
“The citys leaders cannot follow some laws and ignore others and reasonably expect this horrific situation to improve, Sessions continued.”
Then grow some and prosecute those officials for obstruction!
How do blacks in Chicago feel about invaders from Mexico and Central America being enabled to run amuck? About immigrants, illegal and legal, taking so many jobs and using up so many of the city’s resources? I ask because the “impartial” (ROTFL) media never interviews them about the issue.
“... which Emanuel said would violate citizens fundamental rights. “
_____________
How does this effect any legal citizen’s rights? The subject is _illegal immigrants_ detained under violation of criminal law and the timely notification of Federal authorities of that lawful detention.
$3.2M...how much will it cost Chicago to push this through the courts all the way to SCOTUS? Where are the screaming mobs of outraged taxpayers? Has every American citizen left Chicago?
Some street artist needs to print up a bunch of stickers that say “IBLE” and smack them onto every “Resist” sticker and poster they find. Maybe also start a hashtag campaign:#RESISTIBLE
These clowns are covering themselves in false virtue under the banner of resistance to lawful authority. They need to become familiar with IMMOVABLE OBJECTS.
Am I the only one running on my last nerve?
You mean, when crooks run a city, they don’t much care for the police?
Given the criminally irresponsible spending of Chicago and its debt problems, how great is the likelihood that the Byrne grant of millions would actually be spent on measures directly helping the PD? It seems more likely the money would disappear down a democrat black hole, never to be seen again, except in certain private accounts. It’s the Chicago (i.e. democrat) way.
Chicago does not run the nation Mr. Sessions.
Move on this.
Hmmm...seems like something could be done? But i can’t think of anything...enforce the law?
Nahhh....
Astounding? Really?
I would think that with the lawlessness that the DoJ permits to fester in DC, seeing it spread to municipalities could only be expected.
It doesn’t matter if it’s protecting illegal aliens or protecting criminal government officials....lawlessness is lawlessness....and the DoJ has been complicit for a long time.
So Mr. Sessions, please tell us WHY this “astounds” you?
PING
lol - This is nonsense: A) these aren't citizens and B) there is no right prohibiting the federal government from being notified when a criminal illegal alien will be released from jail.
Sessions, they will keep slapping you around until you act like man and respond by slapping cuffs on them!
What does Rahm care? He has bodyguards with guns.
Mr. Capone cannot follow some laws and ignore others and reasonably expect this horrific situation to improve, Sessions complained.
