Uncertainty Pushes Major Insurer To Leave An Entire State's Exchange

Anthem just announced it will back out of Nevada's Obamacare exchange for 2018.

A major insurance provider just announced it will back out of Nevada's Obamacare exchange for 2018.

Anthem said in a statement Monday it was leaving Nevada's exchange because "planning and pricing for ACA-compliant health plans has become increasingly difficult due to a shrinking and deteriorating individual market, as well as continual changes and uncertainty in federal operations, rules and guidance, including cost sharing reduction subsidies and the restoration of taxes on fully insured coverage."

The company had previously backed out of 14 rural counties in the Silver State. That left those counties "bare," or without an Affordable Care Act option for next year.

The power over Healthcare is not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, therefore the power over Healthcare is reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Rush reported that Anthem also pulled out of counties in New York. That fact is unreported.

A game changer goes with the anthem action in Nevada. Although abandoning the exchanges, the company is offering a catastrophic policy aimed at young people. It will be cool if they sell more of those than the Obamacare garbage

I don't cry for those companies. They made out like bandits under Obama.

Now, Joe citizen has to suffer.

As a lawyer would say: “Asked and answered!”

One of the “Blues” is pulling out, just announced today.

The senate is too scared to do their job and Trump is right, Obamacare will collapse. Thus, the do nothings in Congress will be forced to do something, which is how they roll. They never enact good future looking legislation, just legislation by crisis because of their cowardice to act.

There is an individual market but since every dreg of society and terminally ill patient has been tacked on to it it is now unaffordable to anyone who is a paying customer.

What happens when there are no individual insurance markets available?

The individual market only covers less than 10% of the working population so nobody but the dregs and terminally ill care.

They really weren’t competitive here in Washoe County anyway. Found ourselves stuck with Health Plan of Nevada (a United Healthcare company). Too expensive and deductibles mean coverage handles the simple visits and the catastrophic only. Everything in between is simply too expensive since it barely dents the incredible individual and family deductible. Worse, we are paying for things we don’t need, don’t want. And customer service? Ugh.

“The senate is too scared to do their job and Trump is right, Obamacare will collapse.”

Yes, but Trump will be able to point directly at the demoncrats.

Trump will say Republicans tried numerous times to come up with something to replace the illegal, unconstitutional Obamacare which everyone knew was going to fail, but demoncrats refused to help.

demoncrats refused to help Republicans! That will be the mantra.

It is hard for Republicans to not one the failure of Obamacare at this point. They repeatedly promised repeal, then failed when it would actually occur. They standby and let it fall apart, which they own by inaction. This is occurring under a Republican president, Republican Senate, and Republican House. They can blame the Democrats but they own this by not repealing, funding, or fixing. They will pay the price next election—hated by Democrats and voting Republicans and Independents. Bet 2018 is going to see historic turnover.

The "uncertainty" is that the insurance companies have had no incentive to responsibly control costs since the feds are paying them to lose money.

We keep talking about how the gov should lower costs of medical procedures and pharmaceuticals. I'd think if it were in their interests the insurance companies could rein in those costs.

Don’t you think that most US citizens are sick of DC swampthings being more interested in who gets the blame? Nobody is talking about a solution. As far as I’m concerned, ALL of those DC pols are responsible! These are peoples lives they’re destroying with their hidden agendas and selling out to deep-pocket donors.
