To Stop Global Warming, Should Humanity Dim the Sky?
The Atlantic ^ | August 7, 2017 | by Robinson Meyer

Posted on 08/07/2017 10:25:46 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Late last month, about 100 researchers from around the world gathered at Logan International Airport in Boston. A fleet of buses appeared to whisk them to a remote and luxurious ski resort in northeastern Maine. They met to talk, drink, and cogitate off the record for five days about a messy solution to one of the world’s most challenging problems. They had gathered to discuss how to provide humanity one last line of defense against catastrophic global warming: solar geoengineering.

The idea behind solar geoengineering is simple. For the last four decades, humanity has struggled to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas entering the atmosphere. We have decommissioned nuclear plants, introduced millions of new gasoline-burning cars to the roadway, and dawdled through treaty after treaty. Meanwhile, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has only risen.

An administration hostile to climate mitigation has taken power in the United States, and some countries risk falling short of the promises they made under the Paris Agreement. It seems suddenly plausible that the industrialized world will not succeed in staving off two degrees of temperature rise.

“With the physics [of stratospheric injection], you can have huge multipliers. You put one particle in the stratosphere and it can deflect trillions of photons,” said Ken Caldeira, a senior scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science.

Yet this makes the most feasible form of geoengineering (dimming the sun) only a stopgap. “Most of the climate models project that solar geoengineering could offset most climate change for most people most of the time. But in climate models, if something goes wrong, you can run the model again. In the real world you don’t have that option,” Caldeira said.

So much of the meeting was devoted to the natural follow-up question: What could go wrong?

Actually I don’t disagree with research conducted on climate control IF performed by reasonable people with no political agenda. Eventually the ice age will resume and perhaps some things could be done to lessen it’s effects. Maybe not.

In any event we must find ways to adapt to our climate rather than place man back in the stone ages

These people will really f**k things up. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

What they’re talking about here are known informally and widely as “chemtrails,” which have been going on for 20 years now.

Recently, NASA debunked chemtrails as a nutter conspiracy, and now they’re floating the idea as possibly legitimate.

The guy behind this is David Keith, who also will profit from the operations.

Go watch the documentary “Frankenskies” on youtube.

But note the clear blue skies that have increased since oh, about January 20...

Anyone who has ever had a window seat on an airliner will immediately realize that humans are small, insignificant specks and that nature, this world, is huge beyond our comprehension.

Look out the airplane window and realize that even our greatest cities are nothing put tiny pinheads compared to the surrounding planet. Our roads and buildings are just pathetic minuscule scars.

A coast to coast flight is even more eyeopening. And a transoceanic flight will truly put our puniness in perspective. It takes great hubris to believe that we have any power over the climate. It is a form of idolatry, as though we humans were actually powerful gods.

The Atlantic (A Globalists Publication) are attempting to sell what the U.N. calls Geo-engineering.

Geo-Engineering is also known as Chem-trails from the conspiracy theorists.

What is it? It’s metal (kind of like chaff from a fighter jet) sprayed into the stratosphere that reflects the sun light.

How do you recognize it from a Contrail? Geo-Enginnering usually goes from horizon to horizon and see slowly dissipate over hours. Hours later you have a lot of overcast and no more blue skies.

Contrails are ice crystals that usually disappear shortly after a plane flies by. They quickly dissipate and do not go from horizon to horizon.

Geo-engineering had been a some what secret program going for years until President Trump killed it.

First, global warming is a hoax.

Second, they are killing the planet, and attempting to collapse are atmosphere.

Why do I say that. The four elements necessary for the cycle of like are the Sun, water, Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. There are some theories that is what happened to Mars. The atmosphere collapsed.

The Globlists are attempting to tax cabon dioxide, which plants breath and provide us oxygen, based on the lie of Global Warming.

The Globalists are certifiably crazy!

But, what to do with the energy they produce during the day?

Having been in the Gulf countries more times than I can recall the first application that comes to mind is air conditioning. A summer afternoon of 115° with 100% humidity really takes the starch out. Very pleasant in mid-winter but the summers are brutal.

But, all that salt water being used will drop the ocean level 14’6’’ by 2083. The little fishies will die. Nitrogen concentration will decrease and plants will die. And it’ll get colder. And global cooling will kill us all./s

Seriously, these idiots want to mess with nature, not knowing the consequences of what happens next. BTW, isn’t it interesting that all these conferees to discuss solar geoengineering and not one engineer in the bunch!

As a Chemical Engineering student at University of Florida, we were taught to ask four questions:
1. What’s the problem?
2. How can we solve the problem?
3. What are consequences?
4. What does it cost?
Fail to answer all questions and you go back to #1.

A question about something related:

As we all know, the moon is much smaller than us, but sits far enough away that it can block the entire sun when its orbit and the sun’s coincide. I assume there is a spot between the moon and the sun where a much smaller object, say a sphere 200 feet across, would also block all of the sun’s rays. How far away would something like that have to be? My interest is more in the nature of a science fiction idea—a future where one country would have the ability to block the sun from another country any time they wanted, and could use that ability to threaten.

I’m sorry. Energy demand is high during the day, specifically because of a/c but also because of industrial demand. Demand collapses at night. The problem with nuclear is that you want to run it at a constant rate all the time. And, the problem with wind is that you have no control over when it runs. So, in the absence of a battery, you’d like a stand-by use.

I tell people exactly the same thing. Even when over a city with a lot of roads, you can see that most of the time most of the roads have little to no activity. Most of the time you’re not over ANYTHING man made. The atmosphere is truly enormous and CO2 is a trace gas where there’s more dominant greenhouse gases. The natural equalizing mechanisms have been doing their job for a long time.

...yet we’re led to believe that we’re on the brink...and that sea levels are rising in specific places like Florida (only)!

Flying gives you perspective, if you’ve only ever lived in a big city I can understand why you believe all the doom & gloom.

I’m an economist.

What we have is a multi-cyclic dynamic control system subject to random shocks and to feedback. This is a LOT more complicated than the hockey stick theory assumed it to be.

The proof that the climate people don’t know what they’re doing is that the forecasts of their models are wrong. Until they start being able to get their forecasts right, their models cannot be trusted.

Part of their model is that CO2 is a greenhouse gas (the molecule does capture some energy). This is the non-controversial part of their model. But, the greenhouse effect, by itself, is of little consequence.

Rather, it is the amplification of this small effect by the earth climate system that’s supposed to send us into a Venus trajectory. There is no closed-form equation describing this part of the part. It is estimated empirically. If their estimates were correct their model (including the empirically-estimated part) would be validated. But, like I said, their models fail to forecast changes in average global climate.

Now, about your point: Who says that the average pre-industrial temperature was the right temperature. That was the Little Ice Age. Crop failures, starvation, disease and pestilence ruled the world.

I’m of the opinion that the warming of the world thus far has been enormously good. Having said that, I don’t want the earth to turn into Venus.

This guy is the public face of "solar geo-engineering" or "stratospheric aerosol injection" or "solar radiation management," aka chemtrails. He also stands to make $$ from the spraying (he probably already is, since it's been going on for decades).

Call me a tinfoil hatter but I think this is just social conditioning to accept that they’ve already been doing it, that’s what all the so-called “chemtrail” crap has been, reflective aerosols.

ROTFLMAO...exactly! This has been going on for twenty years (if not longer). On another point...exactly WHERE is this fancy ski resort in northeastern Maine???

Climate change believer Elon Musk could shoot one of his rockets and cover the polar region with reflective confetti. The ice bergs would grow and grow. The ice and snow cover on both the bergs, and land would grow and grow.

If something goes wrong, another rocket shoots into the confetti and makes it go poof.

Elon could do this with 2 months notice any time out of his pocket change.

After all the welfare that we have given Elon, isn’t it time that he give some back?
