The Military uses prejudice regularly and consistently to deny citizens from joining for being too old or too young, too fat or too skinny, too tall or too short.
Citizens are denied for having flat feet, or for missing or additional fingers. Poor eyesight will disqualify you, as well as bad teeth. Malnourished? Drug addiction? Bad back? Criminal history? Low IQ? Anxiety? Phobias? Hearing damage? Six arms? Hear voices in your head? Self-identify as a Unicorn?
Need a special access ramp for your wheelchair? Can’t run the required course in the required time? Can’t do the required number of pushups?
Not really a “morning person” and refuse to get out of bed before noon?
All can be reasons for denial.
The Military has one job. War. Anything else is a distraction and a liability.
Did someone just scream “That isn’t Fair”? War is VERY unfair, there are no exceptions made for being special or challenged or socially wonderful.
YOU change yourself to meet Military standards Not the other way around.
I say again: You don’t change the Military... you must change yourself.
The Military doesn’t need to accommodate anyone with special issues. The Military needs to Win Wars.

Ability to cope and remain in total control of one’s faculties plus recall appropriate tactics training is what makes an effective combat leader. When the bullets zing by and incoming rounds explode around you a hot head is a huge liability. The men who were/are the best in combat don’t run mouth. I have seen the best (montagnards and SF NCO’s) under fire, and even when my Rhade yard platoon leader was shot next to me while we maneuvered to assault an NVA bunker complex, these men remained calm and performed. I highly doubt this whacko would last a day with them. I was fortunate to have such fine SF NCO’s and yards.
I’m sure there is no shortage of current/former military personnel that would be MORE THAN WILLING to act as a proxy for our President.
The problem - as this former SEAL should be aware - boils down to trust. Teams are built and maintained through trust. And for SEALs it starts in BUDS - it’s drilled into your brain. You have to *know* the guy behind you has your six and the guys to your left and right have their fields of fire as well. If that trust breaks down even for a second it can be disastrous.
How is anyone supposed to trust someone who can’t trust themselves? How do you trust someone who questions their own natural state?
I don’t have anything against anyone being transgender if that’s what they believe is right for them. I may not agree, but they’re free to choose. However, I don’t want one of them on my team because the question of trust would always be in the back of my mind - no matter what.
It’s not personal, it’s business.
They choose to make it personal.
